Coping with time zones

I take a daily basal dose (Lantus) every morning around 8am. I am going to Australia for a couple of months this winter and am wondering how to manage the time-shift (+9 hours). My DSN suggested keeping it at 0800 GMT, i.e. 5 pm Australian time. I'm not keen on that because (a) it's an inconvenient time of day and (b) it will alter my rapid insulin:carb ratios.

Has anyone dealt with this problem and come up with a workable solution?

That's a good question! You obviously want to do in Australia what you do here, time wise. May I suggest http://www.diabetestravel.org/time-zones/, I can't comment on how good or bad, hopefully other travelling insulin users will be able to comment.

Sounds great, do you need someone to carry your bags?

Bumping this for you @snowleopard

I'm on a pump so it's different for me, but have you asked your DSN if you could gradually move your Lantus to a more convenient Australian time over a few days?

I travelled to japan when taking Lantus once a day, and was only there for 10 days so I just changed the time, gave in the morning instead of the evening. However, if you're going for a longer time, you can slowly shift it to Australia time before you go? But be careful for jetlag, so you don't miss injections by sleeping through them
