I read your excellent post here and agree with all you have said. I too get heartily sick of new members who know nothing of the history or individuals here yet immediately decide to 'have a pop' at members or ex-mods or even present mods !

Find out ALL the facts before jumping in feet first is what I always do.......

Simple really
:D

What I see, as a newbie, is a divide (amongst dieters on this forum) which I am struggling to understand.

We're not actually poles apart - Ken and I had an (almost  ) amicable discussion on what each of us considers hi-fat/lo-carb, and we found that we were arguing about something that we both (kinda) agreed on.

For me, what I call hi-fat (or have done in the past) turned out to be what Ken would describe as moderate fat.

My view, was that having been a lo-fat dieter for many years before diagnosis, what I was doing now was "hi-fat" in comparision to my previous fat intake on those lo-fat diets.

Ken's idea of "moderate fat" was based on current recommendations for dietary fat intake.

Turned out that the limits that Ken and I imposed (or did not impose, as it turns out!) on ourselves were VERY similar, and based more on the types of food each of us eat rather than the actual amount of fat that we consume.

We both love a pork chop!

Patch.

Why do I keep finding myself agreeing with you.....!!!

I just wish those that keep talking about high fat weren't so reticent in telling us the actual quantity they consume each day. One low carb/high fat member ? did tell me he consumed more than 175g per day.....Yuk !

Me, I low carb/low fat and it is always no more than 10-25g fat per day now, although it may sometimes vary depending on what I eat. I do as you say enjoy the odd Pork chop and other things but never on a regular basis.........

Hey, guess what, I too love a pork chop!

It takes all kinds to make a world go round and I doubt you will change me. Many have tried. You expect me as a newbie to read and understand every thread , who everyone is, and was, and what their entire agendas are.. Come on now. I think you are set to be frustrated a little bit longer. I don’t ‘pop’ at anyone unless I feel (rightly or wrongly - as sometimes I am in hindsight mistaken.) they ‘popped’ at me first. I reserve the right to be an individual, even a lazy, fat, slovenly one who can’t be bothered most days to look stuff up. A bit of a free spirit me and I like that. I’m glad for you that you have more patience, dedication and methodology than I do. I’m a regular joe bloggs. I’m on this site looking for friendship, support and education after discovering a) I’m diabetic and b) a low carb diet I just learned about and am trying looks like it is beneficial to my health. …that’s all.
Good day to you my friend.

Nope, not really. you are who you are and I am what I am. Why should any of us change ? We are all individuals. I don't expect you to read every thread as I have done for the last two years, over 10,000 posts helping and advising people. That's what I did, what I do.......

I don't expect you to know the characters on here.....that all comes with time. As for people taking a 'pop', like water off a ducks back ! I have had it here for all those two years just because I was a moderator/monitor. Thankfully now somebody else can have all the grief, that anger, the lies told about them. Though I am sure that I will still be a target for some people, they just will never give in. Their is a blog specifically targeting me for helping people and claiming that I give out misinformation. It's all lies but not much I can do about .......

Their idea of peace is very one sided, their way.....or the highway.

Some time ago a young diabetic, type 1 took exception to some editing and comments I had done to a post by another member. Took me to task via a pm. I explained exactly what had gone on behind the scenes, things that most people never knew about. That member apologised for having a go at me and became a good friend on here. He took the trouble to find out the facts before he commented on anything ever again. that's all people need to do now, don't jump in without asking some questions. Too many innocent people in this world have been vilified for something they haven't done, never said.........it happens.

So, keep posting sparkle, get the help, get the information......just NEVER assume that what you read about some people is the whole truth........for some people they have no idea what is truth and what is fiction.......Sad !

Isn't that the name of the member who advised a pregnant women here that it would be quite safe for her and her unborn baby if she ate a low carb diet? It must have been an imposter obviously as no real doctor would have offered such advise to anyone without having access to their medical history, surely?

But at least he offered a member advice even if it was ill advised and would potentially have got a British doctor into serious trouble, unlike some members here who never seem offer anyone advice

I hope you're not suggesting that discussions about members are conducted by PM.

Also, would this be the fake doctor you refer to in your signature:

What's in my signature is my business and none of yours.

As for any pm's I write to members that too is none of your business. They are, as the name implies Private...........you seem to have an unhealthy interest in what I do, I wonder why that is ? I know why really.....but still, keep plugging away........

Hi Sid

The idea of a low-carb diet for pregnancies is not so strange. I attended a research lecture at Diabetes UK (of all places) where the researcher had monitored pregnant women with diabetes using continuous glucose monitors.

It was pointed out keeping blood glucose stable was the number one priority and that many of the women were advised to low carb.

Mornings were a particular problem and a number of the women were only having one egg for breakfast to prevent their sugar levels rising during the morning.

I believe we were talking women with type 1 diabetes, but perhaps it extended to gestational diabetes.

All the best
Ed

Sid - you are quite right and applies to all HCP - and that includes medics. One problem with doctors giving nutritional advice is that they may not be covered with their professional insurance as they have not undertaken any training! I must admit he amused me with his mumblings about his kids. He will soon learn that not allowing kids some treats will probably result in a rebellion at some point!

As far as low carbing and pregnant women is concerned they are very carefully monitored and their diet planned to include the extra requirements of pregnancy. Just out of interest what levels of CHO was mentioned at that diabetic conference?
