Could someone please inform me why I was banned?

Hi Totto!

Here's the rules:

I expect you just hit the magic number of warnings so you got an automatic ban.

Thanks for the link! Not that it makes me any wiser as to the ban I received though. Can´t see I have done anything wrong according to the forum rules, but I may have behaved with lacking manners towards a moderator if I remember rightly. Unfortunately the post has been removed.

Still, wouldn't you expect to be informed of any warnings? To be able to rectify things?

IMO if someone is banned then they ought to be told why - otherwise how can they possibly know how to mend their "evil ways"??

Hi chick! I suspect the reason I was banned was that I gave the advice not to immediately trust your HCP but to think first before you follow their advice.Dangerous, I know.

In the words of the 20th century's greatest philosopher, Sir Bruce Springsteen: "Blind faith in your leaders, or in anything, will get you killed". In my experience that's especially true of the medical profession. Educate yourself and challenge them on their advice. If it's worth a pinch of salt then they'll be able to justify it.

Elsewhere on another forum system I use where users are sometimes banned/suspended:-

If a user is banned (temp or otherwise) by a Mod, then the Mod HAS to advise the user via PM the reason behind the banning i.e. back seat modding, abusive posting, trolling etc., with relevant details and how long the ban is for.

The Mod then posts on the relevant thread in bold (thus indicating a Moderator action post) stating that XXX has been banned / suspended or is "taking a short holiday" - a more common expression to politely say they have been banned/suspended.

(By the way - by giving some idea of what the ban is for i.e. trolling / abusive messages in the relevant thread it gives people a rough idea of the behaviour that is NOT acceptable in that thread. It is an internet forum after all - people often behave differently online than they would in real life - they sometimes need reminding more often of what the rules are).

If the user diagrees with the ban / suspension then they enter a PM discussion with the Mod that banned them to get the ban reduced / overturned etc., If this is not successful then the argment is referred to a higher level of the forum management for subsequent discussion.

I see no problem with a user asking why they have been banned and asking it on a public thread - how else do other people know what is acceptable behaviour. I have more of a problem with moderators being less than open about things. Sometimes how a forum is run does need to be discussed in public.

Well why would Totto think that members of the forum will know why she was banned, I don't suspect Admin disclose their reasons to anyone, therefore any complaints should be directed to the Admin and the Admin only, threads like this serve no purpose whatsoever but to cause trouble IMHO.

Totto {as anyone else} has the right to politely ask on the open forum for some clarity about recent events concerning her what appears to be unfair suspension as it is not a one off event by any means.
Nigel,"IMHO" it seems that you don't approve of any post that questions "The status quo" or "Rocks the boat" but you are not a moderator or an administrator as far as I am aware so I am perplexed why you and a few others 'seem' to always play the "Causing trouble" or "This thread should be removed IMHO" card whenever something is justifiably questioned on the forum.

Welcome back Totto. I have missed you

Well, let's not forget we provide the content for this forum and if a rule is worth having it has to be clear and understood by all; so explanations of what rule has been broken would help everyone to know where they stand. Arbitrary behaviour is to no-one's advantage.

Asking questions, especially when they cause trouble, is essential in all human interaction.

It seems to me that it's of general interest how the ban process works, and not just a private matter for Totto. I'd certainly like to know. In particular it seems both unfair and impractical to ban people without telling them or anyone else, the reason why. That seems like common sense and decency to me, right?

I may be banned soon anyway as I have confessed to ignoring DSN advice and living to tell the tale... ;-)

By the way, this discussion about The Rules appears to be following The Rules:

"• If you have questions, then ask on the open forum. PMs only get you one answer/opinion and on the open forum there may be more variety."

You are probably right, but as I have started this thread I would like to know about other members experiences of being banned. I am not that bad, am I? And how does banning work? And for what reasons are you banned?

I will however follow your advice and ask Admin about it.

Shortly after joining this forum I received a weeks suspension from the moderator Cugila (Ken) I didnt like it and I felt aggrieved but I didnt bleat about it on the forum afterwards, IMHO that is very bad form, just get over it.

I also received a "warning" shortly after the new mods were appointed a month or so ago, I was less than happy with that decision either but again I didnt bleat about it on the open forum.

If you dont like the way this forum is run you have two choices you can accept it and get on with things or you can leave and not post here any more, the choice is yours.

You could even go and start your own forum and take all your friends with you but that has been tried at least twice before by aggrieved members who didnt like the way this forum was run, neither of these new forums proved to be a success though but that is of course another choice should you believe that you can do it better...

ps, and constant use of swear words may only result in another warning.

Naughty-Naughty! Carbs are essential to sustain life and sat fats are dangerous!

Oh wait,I've just realised I'm a day late and April fools day was yesterday!:woot::hilarious:

I once got banned for "encouraging bad behaviour" by saying "getting banned is a badge of honour."

Obviously I learned from my previous mistakes. I now know that getting banned is the mark of "a very very naughty boy". You shouldn't do it.

Hi Totto, I'll PM you about this... thread closed though. No need to discuss this in public.
