Diagnosed T2 in May, and found out on Tuesday I have covid. I did a lot of reading and was aware that my blood sugar is likely to rise, however, I have found the opposite, bloods have been raging from 7.0 - 8.0 the last few weeks, however since having covid the have dropped to between 6.0 and 6.8, I just tested now and I’m 5.8 (I know this is still not in a good range). Is this likely to be a temporary thing and bloods will rise again when I’m better? I’ve been eating a little but I don’t really have much of an appetite, but I am still eating.

Whenever I get hit with C19, I go lower. I'm not the only one either. Usually with a viral infection, blood sugars rise.... But for some, with spcifically Covid, and sometimes with the vaccinations too, they drop. It'll likely normalise again when it's over.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for your reply, I was wishfully hoping I may have turned a corner , but I’ll expect them to rise when I’m better x

Hi @Christafur I'm puzzled why you say that a BG reading of 5.8 is still not in a good range ! A single BG reading doesn't mean much since our BG levels change frequently (if not constantly) during the day - especially after we eat food or when doing exercise.
I have been in remission for almost 3 years and I only ever test BG around meals: just before a meal and then 2hrs later, but I rarely et a reading as low as 5.8 mmol before a meal and don't ever recall having one below 6.5 at 2hrs after starting a meal.

I’m really new to this, so sorry, I just assumed it was in a bad range from what I’ve read.

No need to apologise. None of us tend to have any real knowledge of T2 Diabetes when we are first diagnosed.
Instead, many of use have accepted things that are not only untrue but even make it worse! Such as that It's our own fault for being T2 diabetic, or that we need to eat carbohydrates with every meal, or that eating Fats makes you fat. All of which are false!

I’m one of the weird ones who’s BG can drop when I’m ill I’ve not had C19 but sometimes I’ve been ill and had much lower BG, not in the hypo range but steadily in the low 4s. We are all different as we often say on here

As well as weird effects from covid itself you say your appetite has been affected, even though you are still eating. Has what you choose or how much of it changed? It may simply be you are eating fewer carbs than you were before you got sick

No not really, I have been on a low carb diet since I was first diagnosed as my HbA1c was 90 and it terrified me! So been eating the usual (meat, salad, nuts etc) just not as much.
