Creon with insulin HELP!!!!!

I recently started taking creon tablets i have a cyst on my pancreas and its blocking my bile duct i also had a stent fitted last week feeling better now a bit but i have to take creon ,as anyone taken these with insulin im on lantus and novo rapid as since ive started taking them my blood sugars have shot through the roof and not coming down much any help please as i need the creon but how do i control my levels aswell there going crazy

I've been on Creon 15 years and insulin for a few months. I don't think the Creon should be affecting your blood sugars as they are only replacing the pancreatic enzymes that you are having problems producing yourself. It may be because the Creon is allowing your body to digest the food you are eating now so the food is having more effect.on your bs?? Sue xxxx

Thanks for your reply im not taking anything else ive been on insulin since last september perhaps you maybe right and i have needed the creon for a while and not relised what would you sugest i do to bring them under control pherhaps i need to increase my insulin and see how that goes xxxx

If you think about it, your bile duct stent us allowing a proper flow and your Creon is giving you the enzymes. Both will allow you to break down, digest and absorb food properly, something you probably havnt been able to do for a while. I'm not really in a position to advise you about increasing your insulin as I don't know enough about you blood sugar readings and/or you diet, so would suggest a chat with your diabetic nurse first? Thanks ,what your saying makes sense i will increase my insulin see how i go with that as im not on a massive amount think thats what my diabetic nurse would tell me do anyway,will ring my specialist nurse who put me on them to tomorrow see what she says i had chronic pancretitus last year so this is where all this came from and ive lost loads of weight aswell and been eating like a pig haha ,my blood sugars have been fine which is strange but now they are rocketing but like you say i am now get the enzimes nd my food i ate b4 is now causing high sugars thank you for your reply as i wasgiven the croen and dont really know alot about it was told to take 3 with meals and 2 with snacks xxx

What strength Creon are you on? 10, 25 or 40000?. It's a bit trial and error at first with the dosage. Some docs will tell you to only use them when eating fats and others tell you with any food at all. I have to take them with everything, even if I have a biscuit! But I have no pancreas left at all. I have three stents over the years but now dont need one. Keep in touch, if I can help I will!! Sue xxx

Im on 25 they told me i have to have them with everything even if i have a packet of crisp i have take 2 ,how did you getbon with your stents i had mine done last wed feeling ok with it the itching is going a little and i have really dark skin so hopefully that will go in next few weeks aswell been told i have to have it out in 6 months tho as they dont keep them in to long im hoping that whennits removed i wont need another but if the bile duct gets blocked again i will have to have another its a cyst on the head of my pancreas thats is blocking the bile duct i think they are hoping it goes on its own as its not cancerous or anything like that i did see something on my report tho dont know if you know what it means when he was fitting the stent he says ampulla is abnornal and has nodulars and is dysplastic i have no clue what that means hopfully its nothing bad i couldnt ask after the procedure as i was taken tl another recovery room and didnt see the consultant after its good to talk to someone who has had a stent as i dnt really know much about them xxxx
