Dairy

Hi @emmashaw706 I personally have no issues with dairy and cream, simply in moderation that's all. I think the news has historically marked fat as being the enemy but I find sugar is the issue, not fat.

As @Juicyj has said sugar is the issue you are referring.
But also carbs are higher in low fat, semi skimmed and others that are not full fat.
Diabetics should avoid low or no fat because the fat is replaced for taste purposes with various sugars and diabetics should avoid these.
Full fat is digested slower and spikes you less than the others. Which has to be better!
Most of those who drink coffee, on here, have cream in it and have no effect on their bloods.

I have double cream and full.fat yoghurt almost every day because I need to gain weight ,my BGS are coming down and my cholesterol is ok

Real cream, butter, full fat cheeses, Greek yoghurt are a staple part of my low carb high(er) fat diet. They're generally very low in carbs and (obviously!) high in fat content, which means they (a) shouldn't/won't have very much if any affect on glucose levels and will also (b) replace some of the energy originally obtained from those glucose raising carbs. Just make sure they're the real thing and not any reduced fat alternative stuff.

Robbity
PS Like @carty my cholesterol is OK, my glucose levels are right down and stable, and I've both lost and maintained weight eating this way.

Many have no issues with dairy, lucky them. I however do spike and am much more insulin resistant. I also keep saturated fat low for cholesterol reasons. Dairy also packs the pounds on me.

Many trying to gain weight have accomplished it by adding dairy and nuts to their diet.

That being said it is all up to you and what you're trying to achieve.

What are people's views on full fat dairy and cream?
Is it good for diabetes or not? So much condescending articles

I avoid it like the plague.
High fat dairy, cream, and I pile the pounds back on, and my cholesterol goes through the roof.
A lot of us stick to good, healthy non saturated fats.

There is a negligible difference between the carbs in skimmed milk and full fat in a cup of coffee, but way less calories as well.

I was told not only by a diabetic dietitian but also the consult I was under at the time that a little of what you fancy wasn't going to do me any harm. However with that said it was made very plain to me that with all things moderation is the key. I aways found it hard to strike a balance. Low fat foods are full of sugar and low sugar food are full of fats. Prepacked processed food are a mine field. I tend to use my own "swings and roundabout" method, if I have the occasional bit of ice cream then I go without something else. Seems to work for me....

Forty years of high carb low fat diets and people generally have become fatter.
