Day one and hello

Hello and welcome.
Im on Metformin 500mg a day
I have a glass of red wine every night,we dont have to give up everything.
Stick with us and read the posts.
All the best.

Ah, I have appt with nurse next week and should be getting a bs test kit...but I will take your word for it, which fruits are ok. I know everyone is different but kind of a rule of thumb if possible?
If it ends in berry it's usually ok but some are sensetive to those too.
I don't know anyone who does grapes though.
I have apples pears oranges but .... a large four serving full fat plain yoghurt will have a half of one of them and no more.
To sweeten it I can get away with a teaspoon of honey.
So half an orange or apple and a teaspoon of honey is four servings.
I can get away with porridge too where some can't but ... there's another but .... but I have to put a tablespoon of coconut oil in or it spikes me.
I actually like the taste too.
I've mushed a banana up and mixed it into a four pot serving but not tried it yet.
Bananas are on the no chance list normally or use in an emergency to recover from a sugar crash but .... but but but .... I've been doing really well at sugar control so have started reintroducing a little more carbs back into my diet and so far so good.

Pork scratchings and nuts are a great snack for me and also an aid in control.
Pork scratchings .... the more I pay for them the more jaw breakingly inedible they are.
The cheapest seem t be the best but some of the cheapies have MSG in them .... whioch bothers me not.
The cheap ones in a cheap shop here called Home Bargains are very nice and not hard.

Hi,Tm6t7, big welcome to the best forum on the web, ask as many q's as you want, you will get sound advice here, all the best on your journey, :)

Hi to all who have taken the time to write, it means a lot thank you all :) I haven't got drunk, a couple of small glasses and some peanuts... Tbh this is the best I have felt for some time... Maybe because it's 'official' now, or maybe it's the warm comforting embrace of grapes (post brewed) or more likely knowing that I have a very knowledgeable and friendly home now, I hope you all are having a great evening, and I love you all you're my best mates etc hic etc :D

Welcome to a good and helpful group. Blackberries like me, bananas do not and grapes no way. Once you start testing your blood sugars it will be easier to work out. I found it good to keep it basic until I was more aware. good luck:)

Hi & welcome @Tm6t7 to the forum, lots of help and support on here.

Big learning curve & unfortunately there will be some conflicting advice from the NHS to what you will be advised on here, in particular on the diet front, as they would be saying grapes in moderation are OK, there are not for most.

Lots of info, maybe a little overwhelming at first, but we have all been there and can help, it will all makes sense eventually.

Neil

Thats what I've done

Welcome: this Forum is a great resource and support, particularly on a bad day :)

Re the grapes: All fruit needs to be treated with circumspection, because it has lots of sugar, and grapes seem to be particular offenders in this regard. However, what I would say is to see how they affect you, and what they do to your blood/glucose levels (I think it's fairly certain they will do something). We all have a different metabolism and differing extents to which we can process sugar, so it may be that what constitutes spike-on-a-plate for one person is merely a minor upsurge for another. Try a small serving - maybe half a dozen or so - and if they don't affect you, try a few more next time. If they do affect you badly, at least you will know.

I love grapes but they do seem to stick my levels up in relatively modest quantities, so I just have a few, from time to time, as a treat, often with a bit of cheese, because the fat content slows things down. I have a bit of a dilemma with fruit generally, because I think it's sensible to have some as a regular part of your diet and so I have a couple of "portions" a day - usually either a small citrus like a Satsuma, or half an apple. That seems to work for me and, although it's relatively early days, I have been able to bring my Hba1c down a great deal in the 9 months since I was diagnosed.

As already mentioned, my view is that grapes are much better consumed (in moderation) in post-fermentation, bottled format :D

I have never been a fruit lover and more less never ate any my entire life .... until I was diagnosed with diabetes.
I now eat more fruit than I ever have but it's only a very small amount.
Saying that though I'm downing four or five lemons a week.
