Hi. Alcohol in sensible quantity with Metformin shouldn't normally be a problem. I've just had a nice Malt whisky, but only one!

Yep, moderation is the key, I usually have just the one vodka and sugar free mixer as a nightcap. Oh, and spirits are better than beer or cider - vodka has zero carbs!!!

WHAT ARE THE SIDE AFFECTS OF DRINKING WITH METFORMINE.

Very few nowadays.

Metformin is a biguanide class drug and it was preceded by a similar drug called Phenformin, now when Phenformin was taken with alcohol it was shown to cause lactic acidosis in some people which is a life threatening condition in fact it is fatal in 50% of cases and for that reason Phenformn was withdrawn from use and now only Metformin is prescribed.

Metformin is a lot safer than Phenformin, and the risk of developing lactic acidosis is not increased by the medication as long as it is not prescribed to known high-risk groups.

So its basically safe but of course alcohol should always be treated with respect, or you wake up with the hang over from hell
