Hello;
I am a diabetic type 1 and I have noticed a significant effect of chewing gum on my blood sugar for years. I noticed that chewing a chewing gum reduces my blood sugar. What do you think? and do you think this can be beneficial for scientific research on type 1 diabetes? Thank you for reading me .... bye

Hello @Elias DT1 and welcome to the forum.

I also chew gum and am a type 1 and have never noticed my levels drop after chewing gum. Gum contains carbs and although a small amount along with stimulating saliva and digesting food it could ultimately lead to a slight increase in glucose levels, however if it works for you then great but haven't heard this said before.

Or could it be whilst you're chewing gum you won't be eating anything else?

Hi, thank you for your reply my friends, but it's true, and sometimes even I had hypoglycemia, I can not find an explanation but I add that it happens to me when I chew for a long time, well I have a habit of chewing a chew gum for a long time. if there is a doctor among us I hope he intervenes.

I wouldn't recommend chewing gum for treating a hypo, you need quick acting glucose to successfully treat a hypo.

yes I know, I said: if I chew a chewing gum for a long time it causes me a decrease in blood sugar or even hypoglicemia sometimes, I can tell you the following result, which is not very old:
269mg / dl 2h after the meal then 162mg / dl after 2h chewing a gum. so I don't know if I'm right or if there are other factors that play in this experiment. thanks again

I wouldn't say that it was the gum that was responsible....or the activity of chewing itself.....

I would do some basal testing over the full day to identify any discrepancies there.....

a drop in levels still need insulin in order to pass the glucose into the cells of the body, or its the liver that has reduced its output of glucose....so there would need to be some connection between the chewing and one of those processes....

yes I agree with you
but I realize this experience often and the same thing happens to me. I also say that there must be a link between chewing gum and blood sugar, but this is not confirmed so SOS doctors who must explain it to us (affirm or deny). but for type 1 diabetics you can do this experiment: measure the blood sugar then chew a gum (without sugar) for more than 2 hours then measure the blood sugar again, and tell us your results. thanks again.
