Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting. I have a five-year-old who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a month ago. She has recently been having problems with diarrhea on and off. It seems to follow a day or so with an episode or two of hyper blood sugar levels. Just wanted to put the question out there and see if any of you have experienced something similar and any causes/solutions you may have found.

Thanks

Hello and welcome, @H Nazz . I am so sorry that you have not had a reply yet.
I don’t have an answer for you, but I hope by bumping this up someone will come along to share knowledge.
I also hope your little girl is improving. It must be so difficult coming to terms with the T1 diagnosis for her.
Tagging @Jaylee, @EllieM , who have experience of being diagnosed in childhood. They perhaps will know members in similar situation.

Hi @H Nazz and welcome to the forums.

I am sorry your daughter has this diagnosis. Though I can fairly confidently say that things will get easier the combination of the new diagnosis with such a young child must make things very difficult for you right now,

I don't really have an answer for you, other than that illness can cause higher blood sugars so am not sure whether the diarrhoa is cause or effect here (or unrelated).

Are you in close contact with your diabetic team about this issue? They are really in the best position to help you and with a 5 year old child I wouldn't hesitate to contact them as frequently as you need to.

Lots of virtual hugs.

Thanks. I am in touch with them, they think it is viral but I have a gut feeling it's something else. I'll see how she goes over the next couple of weeks.
