Type 1 diabetes care

hello everyone
I'm a type 1 diabetic my care is primarily with my GP. i have good control but i haven't seen a diabetes clinician for nearly three years. i switched care to my doctor for convenience while i was working.
i spoke to the practice nurse today and she said she would have to speak to my doctor ?? because i asked to be referred back to the diabetes clinic. I just really want this to speak to someone who understands my diabetes to check that the insulin I'm on is working for me. the surgery asked me to send blood sugar results over, which i did but so far no one has contacted me. i feel like i am asking too much but recently i just feel like through my gp i don't have access to the care i need, they are great and all that but if i have an issue i have no one to talk to about it or to even contact, am i just being a drama head about all this or am i right to want to change my care. i just feel i need to do what's right for me does that make sense.

You are entitled to have access to a diabetes clinic at your local hospital, GP's/DN's can be very good but they just do not have all the knowledge - after all they don't specialise in one thing, they cover everything, so you would not expect them to know everything.
In your practise it's possible that the DN needs the doctor to refer you though so that why she had to talk to the doctor, but don't know if that's the case.

Though do note, some hospital clinics are not entirely helpful for everyone either - some of them are, um decidedly less competent and/or helpful than others.

Reading between the lines (or trying) why do you think that your insulin is not working for you? Are you struggling with high levels?

Hi. Do you have a good DN at your surgery? Mine is super. I currently have a query running about my type diagnosis with the diabetes clinic and they are useless.

no shes just a normal practice nurse she even said to me that all she can do is basic care but she's good though x

Reading between the lines (or trying) why do you think that your insulin is not working for you? Are you struggling with high levels?

I've have been having high days but not doing anything different just wanted to see if its me doing something wrong or maybe i need my insulin changed. I've been on this for around 16 years and never had an issue. its probably user error lol.

hello guys thanks for the help I'd been having a few rough weeks and I was getting my knickers in a twist (i do that)
the reality was I wasn't controlling my blood sugars as well I had liked !! and it was everyone else's fault .... other than mine so I'm a couple of weeks in and I can see my bloods under much better control ..... this is having a positive effect on my mood (who knew ) and my hba1c is on the way down and so is my cholesterol which is making me feel happy. I've started exercising I'm not going mad but it is making me feel SO MUCH BETTER in myself
so sorry about the rant

I’ve remained under the care of a consultant only because I can get better care from them than I do from my practice

I requested my gp changed my insulin.. he wouldn’t because I’m a HGV driver…. One email to my consultants nurse and a few days later I have the new insulin

Any other issues the consultants nurse sorts..

However not all consultants will be the same
