I thought Diabetes UK was a charity

obviously I'm mistaken
why else would a charity that is supposed to be helping diabetics keep their bloodsugar down have a Low Carb Program and charge money for it?

that certainly does not seem to be the way to encourage people to take up the diet

Hi @Phil T57

Are you referring to this sites low carb programme? If so then this is Diabetes.co.uk which is completely different from Diabetes UK and are not affiliated at all. This is a different site completely and not a charity

This is the from the about us page here at Diabetes.co.uk which this forum is part of

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/about.html

Diabetes.co.uk is operated by DDM Health Ltd based in the heart of England, at Technology House, Science Park, University of Warwick, CV4 7EZ, GB.

Since 2007, Diabetes.co.uk has grown into the largest diabetes community in Europe and receives over 1 million users a month. Diabetes.co.uk is a private organisation with an established ‘community-profit’ culture. Whatever we do, we always act with the diabetes community’s interest at heart.

We have invested over £4 million in research since 2015.

Diabetes.co.uk reinvests money earned from the platform into developing education programs for the international community, useful and informative content, apps and interactive tools to aid the community.

This link is to the charity Diabetes UK, which as I say is a completely different place
https://www.diabetes.org.uk/

Hope that helps clear things up for you :)

The difference is in the .co.uk and the .org.uk ... One's a company, the other an organisation. As @lovinglife pointed out, it's not a big money-grab though... Funding diabetes research and the like's pretty decent in my book.

That said... There's this little forum you're posting on, and well... A lot of us can be of use when you have questions about low carb eating. For free. :)

Is there anything we can help with?

I had free access to the early version of the program & this was honoured when payment was introduced. However, I now seem to have lost that access, which is disappointing. I used to find the program quite confusing to navigate, so don't want to risk paying money I can't really afford only to find ot is still unwieldy. Any advice, please?

I used all the free advice on the website, and didn't pay for any program. As I understand it, an increasing number of GP practices pay for access to the DCUK advice for their patients.

This forum is part of the website, but moderators on the forum aren't DCUK staff and have no additional or inside information about the low carb program, payments, access etc. on the website, or anything to do with the business side of DCUK. We're entirely forum-based.

You can contact DCUK here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/contact.html
