I said it before and I'll say it again. I'm weird!
Not to step on anyone's toes as an outsider, I would like to think that I can give a perfect example. Of why we need this forum and the valuable service it provides.
I came on here as a T2 diabetic, trying to find out information. Which I didn't really take notice, I was only being nosey at the time.
I returned after a long battle with my many GPs. They didn't have a clue, what was going on!
It was their job to find a reasonable logical reason why I was ill.
Because I have a really rare condition, how could I blame them for misdiagnosis?
After a being referred to a specialist, whom, I was really fortunate to have as a consultant, took the steps to have me tested for my condition. He even said that a lot of 'specialists' wouldn't know the condition even if they did their tests.
I was advised by my consultant to look on this forum for my diet. He even advised me to stop seeing my dietician after diagnosis, because he expected me to educate myself about the condition.
Only through a lot of reading on the internet did I notice that this forum was the only one where low carbing was recommended for all the reasons that were exactly logical for me.
I had to stop eating high GI carbs. I had to learn a new lifestyle and I got all my inspiration on this forum.
I posted and asked questions. What I received was unbelievable 'expert' advice from a certain poster who had lived with a similar condition for many a year and unfortunately is now T2.
This poster as well as other friends (if I may be so bold?) Began my real education of low carbing and how to test and how to introduce more fat, even though I don't do dairy, and to learn what to do and when to do it. Waffling now!
Anyhow, this certain poster who was my mentor, now directs posters and tags my name to answer them on anything closely related to the condition!
Me, an expert? No way! I've passed no exam except I've been used as a guinea pig (by my consultant) and now jointly between us we have got our own thread advising and recommending.
Would I consider any other advice. Of course, that's what this forum all about. An exchange of ideas.
An information hub. A support forum.
The bottom line is. If our health system was really good in treating all forms of diabetes, then this website would not be in existence. There would be no need, as all the other websites don't support low carbing, high fat lifestyle! or whatever label you put on it!
You only have to look at the success thread to see what this forum has succeeded in doing. It changed my life and I will be eternally grateful.
I hang around just to pass on the information garnered and hopefully do something for someone as the posters (my experts) have done for me.
Long may it continue!
