Hi, my mum is a type 2 diabetic and has leg ulcers on both legs. She now has blisters on 3 of her toes they have not been caused by skin rubbing on skin (the usual way) does anybody know of what could be the cause?

On the same foot? Any others appeared? Could it be shingles? I agree she should contact her HCP.

Yes - urgent attention and please watch out for even the slightest damage to her feet particularly opening up the blisters.
Try to avoid inactivity though - don't let the circulation of blood slow down as that is needed for healing.
Difficult situation I know, and I wish you well in managing it as it could be crucial to your mum's future wellbeing.

She is already seeing specialist nurses to dress her legs and use compression bandages. They have tried to put dressings on them. I just wondered if anyone knew what caused them? Her mobility is not great.

It would be good to have your Mum's blood pressure checked, especially if she retains water.

Agree with everyone else, those feet need to be seen asap - ideally by a doctor.

I have had blistering on my lower legs caused by a lot of fluid retention. It's a known (but not all that common) diabetic symptom.

This isn't the best description but seems to be the only one working at the minute:

I would get them checked as soon as possible. You dont want to risk infection.

Some blood pressure lowering meds cause major fluid problems especially in foot and ankles, so worth checking this out as well in case it is connected to blister development.
