Diabetic Craft Club

Hi, I was diagnosed type 2 in 2012, a few months after having had a suspected case of pancreatitis. Started off with diet, but am now on Metformin. Recently my Hba1c has crept up to 7.9 (63) so Dr wants to up meds. I love all forms of crafting. I started painting in 2013, and I also love to crochet.
 
I went to a new craft group last night - it was the first session and I had no idea what to take, but took all the wrong things. Next time I will be more prepared and have said that I will take tutorials for doing a disappearing 9 patch square so people can learn a basic quilting square to make a cushion cover. So many creative and crafty people out there. Love it.
 
Lovely paintings @candysweet . I've been learning to crochet too. My friend is fabulous at all crochet and runs a crochet group one morning a month so I can always get advice from her.

Hey Rosie, these are great. The Venice one is lovely but I really like the texture effects in the cockerel and the bluebell wood - rock salt?

I took up painting a few years ago when I "retired" from being a full time musician. It started off being a bit of fun while I was on a break.

I don't do much actual Watercolour at the moment, though I am a member of the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales. I'm playing with textures, so acrylics are my thing. (I'm allergic to the turps used for cleaning oil paint off brushes and the RWSW would frown on anything not water based lol.) I used to find Watercolour a bit insipid, but you've achieved really lovely vibrant colours. Well done and keep going. They're really fantastic.
If your teacher is less than inspiring, have you checked out any books by Shirley Trevena? Full of technical inspiration, beautifully explained.

Sorry, I'm a bit behind. I've only just found this thread. I saw Rosie's pictures and just had to reply. There is some really lovely work here, you're all very talented. I for one would love to see more pictures

Yes, Shirley T. is my inspiration. I've got prints of her work on my wall and have some of her books & a CD workshop. She uses Daniel Smith watercolours, which are very vibrant, but oh so expensive!
You are right about the salt. I've also experimented with clingfilm - love the effect. I've dabbled with arylic, but decided to try and master one medium, which will take me the rest of my lifetime I reckon!
 
You've picked the hardest of all the paint media. Good luck with it! If I can find pictures of some of my watercolours, I'll post them. Seem to remember having a bit of a flower phase, right back at the start which worked well in watercolour.

I love the two small boys.
Sewing for me this afternoon. I am delighted to have lost a load of weight but nothing fits very well anymore! We are going to a formal dinner at the end of this month and a new dress is called for.

What style is your dress?!
 
It's just a simple shift dress with a fairly deep neck but the fabric is very nice -silvery grey with some pink. I had originally intended to make a more involved design but decided that it would be better simpler. The good thing is that I have enough fabric and lining left to make something else as well.
