First, thank you to everyone who responded to my first post before Xmas. Now I have questions.
Can anyone tell me how long after initial diagnosis I should have my first eye check?
I'm being told I have to wait a year, which seems odd when they are running tests to check my kidneys etc.

The diabetes nurse arranged mine not long after my diagnosis. I was called in for the test a few months later.

Yes, the first diabetes retinopathy eye test for me was within 3 months of being diagnosed. Since then they have been yearly as are the feet checks.

Had mine when they were running down everything else, too, soon after diagnosis... I thought they needed a baseline to start from to see improvement and decline etc. Why wait a year? No idea! Since then it's been once every two years, save for the covid-years when I rather didn't bother the hospitals.

I had my retinopathy check up around 6 weeks after diagnosis, arranged by Diabetic Nurse.

I was diagnosed Oct/Nov time and have my retinopathy appointment in about 2 weeks - I think it depends on how busy your local hospital is and their backlog but my understanding is it is done on first diagnosis, however that may be different in different areas.
