Diabetic not diabetic

Hi all
So I have seen my doctor and he told me I am diabetic becouse my fasting bloods were 13.5 and my 2h pp were 11.8
Does that sound right? His reasoning is that instead of rising the levels dropped which means I can handle sugar?
He said it's most likely due to metabolic syndrome and PCO. I am going to fertility clinic in two weeks and they r to make a decision.
I am a bit confused to be honest :/
 
Well I have no medical training at all, but with either of those readings I would strongly suggest that you cannot handle sugar! If those were my results I would reckon that my liver was functioning well. It is dumping out excess sugar overnight when you aren't eating and taking it up again when you are. Yes It could well be metabolic syndrome (which is often a precursor to T2) and /or PCOS, but I would say that whatever one or combination of things you have that reducing carbs would be the key to improved BG tests..

Like I said though I am not medically trained I'm just a T2 who suffered with insulin resistance for many years before being diagnosed T2.

What Zand said. There is no doubt you are diabetic, on those numbers.
 
I'm not surprised you are confused, because that info doesn't make much sense, to me anyway. In your first thread, nosher talked about reactive hypoglycaemia. That might be something to look into further. If it's not RH, then it sounds like T2 diabetes. I think you need to see an endocrinologist.
 
Was the 2hr pp result right after the 13.5 fasting? If not, there is nothing to explain, because it's just random. If the two results are 2 hrs apart then I agree it needs explaining, but still no doubt those are diabetic values, not even prediabetic.
 
@Spiker yes they were done on the same day fasting, then 75g of glucose and second reading 2h after.
@CatLadyNZ I asked my GP about reactive hypo but he said he knows nothing about it. I am due to see endocrinologist at some stage in september/October
@zand I am going to reduce my carbs to 50-60 a day.

I am seeing fertility clinic in two weeks after unexplained infertility for 3 years. The doctor I am seeing is a reproductive endocrinologist specialised in fertility so maybe he will help a little more.

My GP wants to do another test when I am back from fertility clinic but he said more than likely they will put me on metformin anyways.

The PCOS could easily be a factor. I hope your visit to the fertility specialist goes well. Cutting the carbs seems a sensible idea, and it may well be you need Metformin. A friend had PCOS and infertility and the Metformin helped her.

Yes cutting down on carbs or going low carb should really help with the PCOS and overall fertility.
 
I am just going to ease my two pennies in here.

My Hba1c at my misdiagnosis was well higher than that, at subsequent test of my hba1c, it was high diabetic levels. Therefore the misdiagnosis!

It wasn't until I saw a specialist and at roughly the same time, I start low carbing, that my blood glucose levels (fasting) be at normal and my Hba1c became normal.

I was only referred because of having a hypo directly in my GPs office, she couldn't explain it, why hypo when my blood glucose levels and hba1c were high and I wasn't on other diabetic meds except metformin.

If you want to judge a diagnosis and prognosis of what happens then a prolonged OGTT is the only way to discount hypoglycaemia. Especially Reactive Hypoglycaemia!

It's what happens after digestion and when the bloods should normalize to normal levels.

The reason I suggested RH is because I recognized and remembered the symptoms!
