i had a blood test for sugar levels last week. the surgery have just rang me to say i need to see the diabetic nurse on the 10th september
it can not be classed as urgent as a two week wait but have been told if i feel/ or start to feel unwell then to ring for an appointment sooner or go to hospital

Ally - Did you ask them for the results? It seems likely they have them.

If it was me, I'd want to know the blood results before I went, so that I could have a little think. It's one less thing to take in at a consultation, when it's not easy to remember everything that's being said.
 
ally, you said you are getting bloods around 10, as was said, if I felt unwell or if I got a high jump, then I would go to the hospital
I'm just glad for you that you are getting help to get your BG right :)
 
it wasn,t a fasting blood test but as it was at 8.30am, i hadn,t eaten:)
 
OK Ally, if you weren't told to fast, then it was either a random blood glucose test or an HbA1c. This is rather important for you to know, so perhaps when you ring for the result you could ask what it was?
 
Hello ally1, If the surgery rang and said come to the nurse, then it must be important, so why the long wait for the appointment. Ring/go in and get the results and if you have kept a record of previous ones add them to it and then see if there is any difference that worries you, if so ask for an immediate gp/nurse appointment.
 
Perhaps you will also talk to them about having a care plan too.

Pop along to Practice and ask the receptionist to give you a prinout of your results.

(Different practices have differing waiting times for nurses due to again, difficulties in maintaining staffing levels and recruitment.. This may be the reason why you have to wait till 10th Sept) however, in the meantime you can still get your results and work on managing your own health...

Firstly, I've been away and it's been good to read about your progress. Well done so far!
It might be a good idea to buy yourself a small notebook to keep in your bag. Make notes of the questions/points to discuss at appointments. It's easy to become flustered so writing thoughts down as you think of them can help. You can read through and make a more concise list just before the appointment.
Remember also that any test results are yours and you have a right to have them so insist, even if you have to wait a day. If you're ringing today, ask them to print out all tests you've had so far ready for you to collect later.

That's great advice. I always take notes when I go to the doc. There's always too much to remember, and it makes them (Doc or nurse) understand you're taking the situation seriously.

When you make your list, don't forget to put a meter and strips on there. You have shown you need to test, and when you do you van make a difference to your scores. That along with being on Gliclazide (even if you don't drive, you need to know if you're having a hypo - it could happen, in time) means, in my view, you should be supported in your request.

I know the Codefree is less expensive than many other meters, but you should be supported.

The NICE guidelines outline the conditions to allow T2s. If you can't find them, let me know and I'll dig out and highlight the bits I think your team should be comply with.

I'm sorry if I keep banging on. And on. And, well,............ on. :sorry:
 
scouser58, i ask why the 2 week wait, and DN is on holiday and the other nurses don,t deal with diabetes
