Diabetics who lunch.

Hi All,
T2 for three years. Varying states of control.
On the relatively rare occasions that we treat ourselves to an evening takeaway my go to is a curry.
No rice, no naan, no problem, delicious.
Lunchtimes however, not so easy.
Sandwichs, baguettes, jacket potatoes, something and chips, none of which I want to eat.
What do all you lovely people do?
All thoughts very welcome.
Thank you.

You can order just about anything with a "hold the bread/bun" memo these days. At McDonalds, the ones that do an all day breakfast anyway, I might go for two breakfast mcmuffins without the muffin. (So it's just eggs, bacon, sausage, maybe some greens and cheese). Or any hefty burger would do, also without the bun. Same could go for a kebab or something. This time of year it's kind of hard to find a salad, but once spring kicks in one could have one, maybe not the dressing that might usually go with it (I do miss honey dill!), but if you have olive oil or mayo on hand... That could well do the trick, as long as there's plenty of protein in there, so maybe tuna, salmon, chicken, surf & turf, eggs? If you want to bring stuff from home, how about boiled eggs, or cheese roll-ups (literally just some cheese rolled up with whatever you please in there; butter, garlic/herb butter, cold cuts), maybe cold high meat content sausages if there's a microwave there that can zap them back into being warm.

It's a bit of a search, but there are options. Places like McDonalds do sometimes forget it's kind of hard to eat something if there's no bun around it, so maybe have utensils with you at all times. ;)

Hope this helps some!

Don't always eat in the middle of the day but when I do it can be leftover meat cold with mustard etc: salami, ham, all sorts of cold cured meat/sausage: olives: nuts: cheeses: pork scratchings; omelette or scrambled eggs and bacon or similar; bratwursts etc; low carb "bread" rolls with any of the above as filling, or just toasted with butter; or combinations of all of these.

I’ve been known to order a tuna jacket without the potato! Cue puzzled looks from the waiter but it works. Nds up as the tuna mayonaise usually with coleslaw or salad. I’ve done it with other hot fillings as well. Some places do an all day breakfast and will allow you to swap something like baked beans/hash browns for mushrooms, and order without toast

Being a lady who lunches out as often as possible, I find it easiest if I have an input to type of establishment.

Tea shops and patisseries type cafes are totally out. Sometime they might offer scrambled eggs or an omelette but only rarely. Sometimes they might do a cheese plate. Or a salad.

I try to head for somewhere that offer hot food eg garden centres, breakfast fry up type cafe, a pub
Today was tapas.

If the company and social side is important and carb based venues are the only option its OK these days to say "no food for me, I'm fasting today" . You can eat before, or after, and no one will be any the wiser. Your friends may he incredulous or interested or envious, but it's your body, not theirs

Just watch alcohol though, I find wine on an empty stomach goes straight to my head.
