You already went from a hba1c of 80 to 52. Why would decline be inevitable when you've already proven it can improve? The worst thing for me to accept is the inevitability of decline; that's something that sits heavily with me.
Can it be that historical figures on the progression of diabetes were obtained during decades of pushing diabetics to have plenty of carbs with each meal? This was learned from the NHS Desmond session. Whilst T2 can be kept in check for (many) years, the insulin produced by pancreas eventually depletes, leaving induced insulin the only option.
Hi Antje77,
"Good luck, you might well prove whoever told you 'inevitable decline' wrong"

Also I would highly recommend getting a BG meter. That way you can test to see which carbs and how much spikes your BG.@Jim Lahey, @bulkbiker & @Dr Snoddy
Thanks, everyone, that's encouraging. The DESMOND I attended didn't push carbs, rather promoted substitution and balance. I don't think it was as low as 35g per meal but I have been monitoring using the Carbs & Cals app (it's beginning to become an obsession!). I'm trying to stay within the 150-160g mark per day, along with daily moderate to heavy exercise.
Onward!
I try and stay around 10g per day!@Jim Lahey, @bulkbiker & @Dr Snoddy

That's... Still quite a bit of carbs. More than I could handle myself, honestly. I'm at 20 grams a day or less. And have been happily in the non-diabetic range for a few years now, medication-, complication-, and progression-free.Thanks, everyone, that's encouraging. I haven't sampled Oppo, so no idea if it was delicious, therefore understandable, or you just had a rush of blood to the head.
