Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

Sorry for all your bad news @Chook - it must have been a tough day and makes my fears pale to insignificance. At least today I just wish someone would slap the GDFTN! Seems you had a point about staying away from my tester (wasn't difficult as my fingers are sore anyway). Just tested before dinner and I'm at 6.1 First time in a few days. Feel more relaxed too and I have Aqua tomorrow which is good for working out stress. Boys are staying tomorrow night but that's not a hardship as they are good at going to bed - they have an ordered routine. No 1 has swimming the next morning so we are away early anyway.
Did a @Brunneria tonight and had a pile of veg. Carb count for the day (although not sure I believe it) was 23g but 13g of that is fibre. When you count your carbs do you go with Gross i. e. 23g or Net 10g? It is mostly the veg it is coming from. I daresay I'll see when I test later. Where is @Brunneria Anyway today?

Feeling fairly positive this morning - my FBG has slowly gone down a point or two every day this week and was actually in the 5s this morning. Okay... it was 5.9 (but that's still in the 5s - just). :)

I don't know for sure why it's slowly reducing as there are a couple of changes to my routine. First, due to Mr C having to work late and get to work early we have been having dinner at 7pm then going to bed at 9.30 and, second, I've been having a (small) breakfast, (small) lunch and (small to medium) dinner every day with a few walnuts as a snack at about 5pm. Aiming at VLC and 1200-1400 calories spread out over the day. The breakfasts don't stop the DP but they are making it a lot shorter with the down turn starting at about 9am rather than 12. Yesterday my FBG was 6.2, highest BG was 6.3 at 9.15am and lowest was 4.7 at 5pm.

Good figures @Chook - bet you are happy with them. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for you.
I went to bed on 6.8 which was a lot better but got up to FBG of 9. It probably went up again before breakfast but I kept away from my kit. Hubby allowed me to test pre Aqua and I was down to 6.8 again so it dropped a lot quicker than usual. Just back as boys are staying and I have things to do. Will avoid testing until later and TV is off so I don't have to listen to any drivel from the GDFTN.

Hugs to all - dreadful news @Chook and having to break it to Mr C.

@maglil55 - turning the TV off seems a wise idea! What does GDFTN stand firm? I am sort of assuming the first involves a deity and the second a condemnatory word (trying to be polite here!) the third letter may be a four letter word but stuck on TN,

Ginger Dwarf fae the North
- Katie Hopkins to thank for that. Not a fan of her either but every so often she comes out with a cracker.

Yes, I'm pleased (and surprised) with them. Because it's a new regime for me I've been testing every two hours. I am struggling with eating lunch, I'm find after eating lunch I'm getting the munchies in the afternoon which I don't get if I don't eat it. (Even if I fast completely I don't feel hungry until about 6pm.) It's like eating lunch has turned on my appetite. :( But I'm prepared to live with the munchies, though, as long as my BG improves and I get to fit in to my favourite jeans.
FBG at 7am was 5.9
9am 6.1
11am 5.8
1pm (lunch) 5.4

@Brunneria Thank you for the tip about making the DD rutabaga fritters with ordinary cheddar. I made them last night to go with home made Stilton stuffed burgers, soured cream and mixed green salad - although I baked the rutabaga fritters in the oven rather than frying them. I also mixed in some garam masala and whole toasted cumin seeds in to the swede mixture and brushed with melted butter before baking - and they were gorgeous. Mr C has taken the leftovers to work. :)

Where do you buy your rutabaga? I have seen it as an ingredient but wouldn't know it if I fell over it!

Rutabaga is..... swede - just the American name for it. Rutabaga sounds so much more exciting than swede I got it delivered from Asda. I quite like swede in the other ways I've cooked it (mashed with butter, in stews, etc) but its usually been to bulk out a meal and has never had the starring role before. The rutabata fritters made lovely change.

I think next time I'll make them bigger and I also think the mixture could be used as a topping for (say) a low carb version of shepherds pie. I'm not sure what it would be like with halloumi (as given in the recipe) but I will find out as I've got the halloumi version for dinner one day next week - I might even fry it this time. :)

@maglil55 This is one of those random things.... I've just been doing a reply to a thread on Night Sweats and said that the only time I get them now is when my liver gives me DP. Then I got thinking.... its almost like my liver has got a stubborn personality of its own doing something I really don't want it to do. So, then I got to thinking what would she look like - and here she is:

On a different note (didn't want GDFTN looking at me again@Chook) night sweats coinside with high BG? Didn't know that. I did mention that I'd been really hot. Last night I had the sweats again and sure enough FBG was higher.

Yes, all the while my diabetes was uncontrolled I was VERY hot - so hot that for several years I couldn't bear the central heating being on - for pretty much all the time, then as I got it more under control the day time being hot and the night time sweats slowly faded leaving me just this blast when DP kicks in. On days when my BG runs high I am warmer than days when it's low.

Sorry, I thought you might find my last post funny. :(

I did I did. Just a face that needs slapping. There's a few more doing the rounds - one alongside Jimmy Crankie and another in an SS uniform. I'm trying to avoid her but it is difficult as their conference started today.

Yet a bit lower this morning. FBG of 5.6 followed by a very late fry up breakfast. I thought the delay in eating breakfast would set the late DP off but, no, two hours later it was still at 5.6, although it might have gone up and come back down in those two hours. I'm not hungry for lunch but I did the lunchtime test any way and it was 4.7 -so I'm eating a few walnuts because it's a long time before dinner.

I wonder if the VLC way of eating has finally emptied my liver's stored glycogen. I suppose I'll find out over the next few days by what DPs I have.

I wish mine would empty its store. Up again this morning but that's probably due to trying to hurry up the grandsons so No 1 could get to swimming.

I would imagine that it's got to happen eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Do you think that all these highs you are getting are liver dumps?

We've got a new RSPCA charity shop in the next village and I found a lovely Jacques Vert turquoise and ivory dress and jacket outfit for £6 and a Jacques Vert ballet length black silk and lace dress for £6.50. Then, just as we were leaving, I found a gorgeous beaded Frank Usher dress for another £6 - all in one size smaller than me. Mr C has promised to take me somewhere suitable to wear the dress on my birthday which gives me three months to lose a dress size.

My BG seems to have a life of its own... down to 4.1 now. When it got to 4.4 I ate 80g of cherries to bring it back up a bit but it's carried on dropping so we are having dinner a bit early. All very strange.

I don't see how it can be anything else. No 2 had a bad cough so hopefully he hasn't infected me again but I don't feel unwell apart for aches and pains which are constant anyway. Carbs are usually under 20g daily - always if you go on net carbs. The alternative is stress as we discussed the other day. Currently I feel quite calm. Still trying not to test as much for now.

I love Jacques Vert . That was serious bargains. I have a pair of jeans I love and Hubby hates because they are 'ankle grazers' . Had them for about 3 years and they are faded now and M&S don't have them now. Thing is they are no longer 'ankle grazers - they keep falling down! I'm kind of happy and sad about it.
