Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

Agree with @Chook , pms543 - I had jumped to 19.7 and although I was able to get it down to 14/15 quickly it took a lot longer to get into single figures. I'm not helped by the fact I am around small children all the time too and am prone to constant bugs. Their sole purpose in life seems to be to infect you will various nasties

I've been looking at my graphs from my results. DP is still there but a lot lower. It is still appearing as an upward trend but only because the start point is also lower. Unlike the night before where BG went up last night normality returned and it dropped but, as you rightly pointed out @Chook , I slept a lot better last night. Oh well , will see what tomorrow brings.

Thanks for the encouragement both of you re bgs, guess I was having a moment thinking all this cream am indulging in is having the opposite affect!!
I have done 2 complete ( nearly) days of gluten free and low carbing with no extras not allowed - have even reduced the tea supping to pellegrino water x2 litres a day so def was expecting better numbers

They were high beforehand in the 15's and slightly lower depending on what had passed my lips, due to my carb feasting and sweets intake so really, 2 days later isn't enough time to see great changes......

I just hope the calorie intake isn't too high thus preventing weight loss ( am trying to ignore cals)

It took me a while to get my head around 'why don't they tell you the calories?' As the long term low carbers will tell you calories don't matter. After years of being subjected to low calorie/low fat it is a big step to acceptance of low carb/high fat and I still have a niggle about calories. I use My Fitness Pal to record everything so I have an idea what the calories are. I say idea because MFP is largely member entered and some entries can be dubious to say the least! So for the recipes you end up with an estimate.
I wasn't totally convinced until I actually started to lose weight. If you limit yòur carbs then your body looks for something else to burn ie fats. The problem is your liver. It has been building up its stores ready to pump out into the system. If you look back on this thread @Chook and myself have had lengthy discussions about overstuffed livers and deflating them. When I stuck again I tried to restrict protein but eventually thought let's just run with it and 19 weeks on it is working. The thing I hadn't appreciated was the fat stops you feeling hungry so following the eat when hungry stop when not principle you automatically limit your intake. @Brunneria, @Chook and myself soon found it was too much food so we started to adapt it. I'm a breakfast person and frequently skip lunch for example.
It will happen, your BG will drop, you'll start to feel better. There will be setbacks but you get overthem.

O that's encouraging maglil to know and understand
Am desperate to lose weight although getting. My BGS down to acceptable levels is the priority

I have a booked appointment that I moved forward to August instead of July because I want to give myself three months to show the diabetic team that I can not only get my bgs lower but also lose weight , in saying that , the medication I'm on won't be helping really but hopefully that is not a long term thing!

Yes I read the fat will eventually stop me feeling hungry so looking forward to that one because right now my mouth want to chew LOL

I was thinking that after today's creamy hamburger thing and then I've made the chicken with pesto for tomorrow dinner & that's also quite creamy so I will be looking for other meals that are not too creamy but it's only day 2

I don't know what your surgery is like. As @Chook will tell you ever ill at hers is due to 'low carbing'. Mine is different. They are not allowed to deviate too much from NHS practice but they are open to working with you so they discuss and their view is you can't argue with results. They know losing weight is a struggle (I'm disabled - bad crash with a lorry) so I'm limited in exercise but it doesn't stop me. Weight loss is down to food but you feel you are constantly fighting your medication - it's hard. However, results are hard to argue with.

That chicken dish is another favourite. @Brunneria is a big fan of it. One you have coming up is the cheese stuffed chicken - I love that one. Think it is week 2. Roll out bacon (streaky) and wrap the stuffed breast in it though. Keeps the cheese in place.

How many carbs in a naan bread?
Naan Bread Calories and Nutrition per Serving (1 Serving=1 Naan/160g)
Calories 538
Protein 14.2
Carbohydrate 80.2
Fat 20
Fibre 3

On the other hand, you can make the low carb Diet doctor kind and go to the john ofr three days because of the amount of psyllium

Or you could skip naan altogether
This dates back a fair way. Psyllium Husk doesn't affect me and I prefer the DD naan to 'normal' naan. Has a nicer taste (or maybe it's my taste that's changed)

@Brunneria @Chook - above post took me back to when we first started with this and I had a right giggle reading our early experiences again. The eggs were especially funny and that realisation that 50 eggs were a bit excessive for 2 people and @Chook longing to see Mr C's face if 6 doz arrived. Quite enjoyable way to pass the time while the football was on.

I must track back and read the 60 odd pages then.....

It's quite entertaining in places. On the egg saga , I was having scrambled eggs for breakfast. They were recommending 3 eggs which I found excessive. They didn't specify size but I eventually found out it was medium so I cut it to 2 eggs then 1 large which is fine for me.

I will have a read back of the early posts when Mr C finishes his holiday.

I remember that first Asda DD delivery - all that cabbage and eggs and cream - not forgetting the huge amount of butter. We still get through around two dozen eggs a week as DD got me in to the habit of having eggs for breakfast - although I usually have them boiled (with Lidl protein roll soldiers) and we still have butter - but I don't think I've eaten cabbage since the crack slaw which I think has completely put me off cabbage for life.

I'm okay with psyllium husk - doesn't seem to get me like it does Mr Chook. I remember making some of the DD garlic breads which taste lovely but if you make the recipe as given they turn out so tiny, so I made the recipe for 10 portions and made 5 garlic breads from it. Mr C loved them and ate 3.................. eating about one and a half tablespoons of psyllium husk. I think it cured any constipation issues he had for life.

I find psyllium brilliant - with absolutely no ill effects after. Although I do always have to remind myself to have 2 BIG glasses of water alongside it, in whatever shape I have it.

Think my favourite is in a low carb hot choc (cocoa powder, erythritol, hot water and double cream). The psyllium gives it the gloopy texture of a kind-of-milkshake.
Actually, haven't had one of those for months! Maybe tonight... :)

Hah ......ready for this bed 5.2 FBG 5.5 and pre breakfast was 6.7!! Can't believe it. Something is happening. Yes I had scrambled egg for breakfast (just one) with a slice of Tesco high protein bread toasted. And yes I still buy 2 doz a week.

That was one of my questions they answered. I received a feedback request from them yesterday which I answered then they came back to ask what they could do to improve things. My response was
1) Enhance the meal planner to allow building of our own weekly menus. I know It's 'coming' but when?
2) Transfer of shopping lists to online shopping apps - another thing that is 'coming' but again when? Priority has to be 1) above though.
3) More nutritional detail on the recipes
4) Answer members questions. They need to totally rethink how they do questions. It's pot luck whether your question is answered or not. A question forum with threads would be more efficient and effective as many questions are repetitive and could be answered by members leaving the more complicated ones to be dealt with by the team.
We will see what reply I get. I did say I still love the site and the recipes it is just it could be so much better.

I think my only real issue with the DD website is the cumbersome navigation.

Every time they ask for feedback, it is my first comment.
There are far too many clicks to navigate from 'sign in' to 'keto menu 5' if I want to check the recipe, or see what meals are included in this week's menu, so I can plan tonight's cooking.
I have had to print the recipes out onto... drumroll... prehistoric paper (!) because I got impatient with endlessly navigating to the week's menu, to then find tonight's recipe.
Usually, when I cook something from the internet I do it with the tablet beside me on the kitchen countertop. With DD I prefer to waste paper, and save the irritating navigation time.

Other than that, I would LOVE the more adaptable meal planner that @maglil55 mentions.
