Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

Ho hum - we got an apology from the doctors' surgery Practice Manager and he will be providing the receptionist with some 'education' about appropriate behaviour. Apparently she is allowed to read the Consultant's letter before allocating an appointment but shouldn't have read it out loud. It seems to have completely escaped him that the receptionist is not medically trained and therefore shouldn't make a judgement based on the letter's contents.

@maglil55 - why do you think those figures are strange - they are very much like my own except that I don't have that additional test after my FBG and breakfast - mainly because breakfast is less than 15 minutes after getting up.

I should think so too @Chook. Education? I've got visions of these odd sy fi films where they have these wired metal helmets on them.
I guess I find them odd because I was so used to the jump pre breakfast up to 8's /9's sometimes higher and it's not happening now.
I'm just hoping this is the beginning of more normal figures as I thought I was destined to be stuck in the low 6's. Incidentally, I was 4.7 post Aqua fit/swimming.

Its funny, we all have different mental images of the word 'education' - you thought of sci fi wired metal helmets, Mr C thought of being given the cane and I thought of sitting in rows chanting the times tables. I think Mr C needs some kind of therapy..... LOL

Glad Chook that you got an apology albeit not as one would expect re lack of medical knowledge etc

Good on those numbers Maghlil , am not sure why I got up in morning to a 6 and then within an hour prior to breakfast it's risen to 8.9 today!! Is this liver dump?

Today's DD Menu

Breakfast: chia porridge

Lunch: egg and tuna salad

Dinner: salmon with chilli paste, mayo, sour cream and grated Parmesan on a bed of spinach plus a side of med veg baked

Yummy

I love that salmon dish and it is great cold next day with a salad. It is one of my all time favourites.

Yes. @Chook and I had months of this. We tried everything under the sun to minimise the pre breakfast rise and nothing worked. Mine has only just started to stabilise. Best thing is to ignore it as the BG will descend again. I was frequently in the 8's and higher pre breakfast but rest of the day was fine. We're back to this overstuffed liver scenario. I'm hoping mine has finally gone.

Eating as quickly as possible after getting up seems to work for some of us. I know @maglil55 's husband boils eggs to keep in the fridge for her to eat on busy days. I aim to have my breakfast within 15 minutes of getting up.

That's true. Just added another 8 boiled eggs to the box!

We had the courgette rollups with chicken this evening, and they really are LUSH.
Except of course that I had to fiddle with the recipe and make the veg/cheese dish as a one pot on the hob, rather than cooking the veg separately and then combining it and the cheese/cream cheese in the oven for ages. sooooo much less washing up!

Loved the chorizo and cheese and veg combo though. Will definitely be doing this regularly!

So darned happy!

Weighed myself this morning
In 4 days of DD foods am down 4.5 pounds ( old money)

(Nowt wrong with old money - as hard as I try I just can't visualise in metric.)

WELL DONE ON THAT 4.5 POUNDS!!!!!!!

I'm an old money person too. Well done you. Now stick at it. Just remember you are fighting medication too so every lb is hard earned.

So went off to bed on 5.6 FBG 6.9 and pre breakfast was 6.6. That little switch prompted me to have a closer look. As you know I have busy mornings and there is usually a gap between FBG and breakfast. I'd had a restless night. Very humid which also affects my legs so 6.9 didn't surprise me. Got all the swimming stuff ready, showered, loaded car and then got the 6.6 before I had one of my egg store and a coffee. Normally all that activity would have sent me to the dizzying heights of 8.something. This Libre is about 0.1 under the finger pricks so I had a close look at it. Overnight went along quite merrily around 5.6 until 4 am when I dropped to 4 (usually the drop is at 3am but I assume the delay was due to being restless). There was an almost immediate correction and a steady rise until it got to 6.9 when I checked FBG. It continued to rise while I was packing, showering etc but it only went to 7.2 and it turned with No food hence the 6.6 pre breakfast. This is certainly a change so I'm going to keep a close eye on it.
Beautiful day today though.

Beautiful day today though.

How wonderful to see what your BG is doing during the night - I still go to bed lower than I get up and, it seems to me that the lower my BG is when I go to bed the higher it is in the morning. I also find that the time I go to bed matters - the longer I'm asleep the higher it will be in the morning. All very strange - just goes to show that our livers haven't stopped giving us little presents yet.

Yes, its a gorgeous day here, too. All meals today will be ate in the garden. Dogs were red hot after their early morning walk so we have been spraying them with the garden hose and therefore aren't allowed back indoors yet. Jack loves it but Millie and Archie hate the hose but like feeling cool. At the last spraying I turned it on Mr C - for some reason he also didn't like it. ;)

And the trend continues today. Bed on 5.1 FBG 6.4 and pre breakfast was 6.3. Again I checked the overnight status on Libre and again it went down to 4 about 3.30 this time and then started the gradual rise. After the FBG test it continued the gradual rise , hit 7.1 then turned and was at 6.3 pre breakfast. So it looks like my body/liver is finally doing what it is supposed to do but without the mega morning highs?
Hubby is going to buy me more Libres. I still have 3 but I am finding out too much now to stop using them. I think I may be addicted
(I reckon I need a few Touch wood to avoid jinxing myself now). Weight stayed stable - no fall, no rise , not even 1 oz but after a 5 lbs drop last week it was hardly surprising. The difference last week was that unintentional 24 hr fast so I'll try to do that again this week.
@Chook we finally bought a decent sprinkler and Hubby is forever getting in the way of it. The boys love it on a hot day. Bet the dogs would have fun too.

Still going along fine 5.4 going to bed , FBG was 5.3 and pre breakfast was 6.2. Same trend as yesterday goes up to around 7.1 then turns and was back at 6.2 pre breakfast. This was surprising as usually after the bigger meal on the Sunday the BGS are a bit higher.

Mine has been steadily rising over the last few days with the heat and then, last night, the A/C we have in our bedroom decided to die so I really struggled with sleep and am feeling exhausted this morning (even though its cooler) - so I expected an even higher FBG so it was a big shock when I tested and my FBG was 5.2! And I have NO idea why!! I think all I can do is carry on eating the way I am and accept there will be times when my BG is affected by external cirumstances and does its own thing.

Yes mine were slightly higher but still good for me bed 6 FBG 6.3 and pre breakfast was 6.1. I had a restless night again and was up at 4.30 because one of the old phones the boys play games on had been left on and was blaring out Jingle Bells!
