Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

I think we've done a swap and I'm getting your old numbers. FBG was 7.2 this morning (and still rising). To try to put a stop to it I've had a cooked breakfast but it's still going up. Mr C got a bit worried and is just on his way to Sainsbury in the next village to get me some Lindt 70%

You don't have a bug coming on do you?
That's another weird thing, I have a sore throat and my BG isn't rising (touch wood quickly). I'm back on paracetamol and First Defence.

@maglil55

I feel okay apart from the usual aches and pains. :)

This is awful, it's climbed up in to the low 9s! Mr C has just come back with the 70% and I will try 20g to see if it has a BG listing affect on me.

I would instantly suspect an oncoming bug. I've just had 2 90% as No 2 has just been fed and we're off again in 10 mins to take Mum to get fitted with new ankle braces.

I'm relaxing out in the garden at the moment - hoping that the sun bakes whatever is brewing out of me. Unlikely, I know, but I can hope.

Down to 4.1 now - maybe sunshine and chocolate are the answer to high BG. Wouldn't it be wonderful it was that simple. :).

Now all we need is to discover that Prosecco and red wine are really health foods in disguise and we could make a fortune by marketing a diet that nobody would have a problem sticking to. ;)

Amen to that

Hello Larrymore and welcome to the Forum. Here in my signature are the links to the Basic Information for new members and to the Low Carb Program.

Morning all.
Not been DDing since we got back from relatives, mainly due to weird schedules, Montezuma chocolate truffles, and a determination to re-feed after the forced fasting last week. I have done a huge batch of beef shin slow cooked in red wine with masses of veg, so we are living on that for the mo.

Going away was a strange experience at the time, and in retrospect, even stranger.
The hunger was absurd, and really affected my mood. Think this was purely because I wasn't in control of the food going on my plate. I have certainly fasted harder and longer than that under my own steam, without the emotional aggro. But then family dynamics are often a hot button, aren't they? Plus, the eating was low fat, which has never been easy for me.

Anyway, 3.5 days of hunger, sometimes severe, and then suddenly, on day 4, it switched off. From one hour to the next.

And now I am speculating whether that was the point my body decided to go into Energy Economy Mode, because quite a lot of things felt different. I don't think it was the point that Jason Fung talks about when glycogen stores are used up, and the metabolism hikes into ketosis - because I've been eating ketogenically for months and liver dumps have been tiny.

Since we got back, Mr B (my Hero) gave me a small box of Montezuma truffles (16 chocs for £16) and I have had a bit of a choc fest on them. Although they did last 3 days, so not too bad. Fascinating outcome. They have no blood glucose impact. None at all. They are very dark, very delicious. What my mother would call 'for grown up tastes'. A far cry from those sickly sweet high street choccie boxes. There are 4 flavours, all equally delicious. Have now ordered a second box, to see if the experiment repeats.

I have the same problem when we go visiting. Lucky for me people don't ask us to stay over night too often because of us needing to take all three (big) dogs with us. I did have a thankfully short experience of it recently with staying at my MIL's and the worse part was not being able to control the food available so I just didn't eat anything. I hope you are over it - your stew sounds lovely and the chocs sound amazing - I 'mentioned' them to Mr C.... twice.... said the need ordering off internet.... hope he takes the hint. :)

I looked quickly and quickly looked away again at Montezuma. Gee there were loads I would love. Having a bad time bed 7.1 and BG started to rise at 3am FBG 8.5 but it's because my cold has gone thermo nuclear. Sneezing, fever, generally gunky. Went as high as 9.3 but it's on descent again so hoping it won't last. At least my throat isn't sore now. I have No 2 today but he is currently blasting Papa with a bubble/water gun in the garden. Will be looking for lunch shortly though.

It was the Montezuma truffle box on Amazon in the squiggly patterned box. There is a Union Jack box too, which is slightly cheaper, but I can't bring myself to eat Jingoist Chocs, even if it saves a few pence.

Oh @maglil55 I can't believe you are suffering another plague so soon. :(
You need to wrap those grandkids in biohazard suits.

Can I suggest biohazard for me ? Hubby's fault - he's had a bug for weeks. I thought I'd escaped it but no such luck. Hence why he is being shot with a bubble gun

Well, something's definitely weird with me. I have been so ..... gobsmacked .... at my tests this morning that I've taken pix of the meter. Sorry about the times and dates on the meter being all wrong, I can't figure out how to adjust it, but.....

8.30am (minutes after I got up) but before eating breakfast

Two hours after breakfast - I repeated this test and it duplicated the result!

about an hour later....

All I had for breakfast was a buttered Lidl protein roll with two rashers of bacon

Huh????? :banghead::wideyed:

I went back through my records and the last time that I had a result that high was after a bar tender in a pub gave me normal tonic instead of sugar free - and before that it was back in early August 2015 before I started low carbing.

I have no idea why it was that high - or how I could stop it doing it again in the future cos I know its the spikes that cause damage. Any ideas????

Chook - 2 things 1) Like me you have a bug working on you?
2) could your meter be going doo lally? I had to change my meter earlier this year as you may recall as I was getting all sorts of weird readings.
Your readings don't make sense on your diet as you well know. Does your local pharmacy do BG tests? Might give you an idea if it is you meter.

Well, first off, your body is more than capable of coping with an 11 once in a while. I agree that it is higher than ideal, but as a quick bounce up then down, don't worry about it.

As for why...? Any stress? Excitement? Pain? Aggro?
It may be as simple as that.

I would certainly wait and see if it happens again before thinking too hard about it.

Mind you, those Lidle rolls were never as great for me as for other ppl. Maybe because they have gluten in them (a LOT of wheat protein on the ingredients list). They used to push me up higher than I liked. A half was better for me than a whole. And then I stopped eating them altogether when I went gluten free.

At this stage though, If I were you I would just shrug and say 'lets see if it turns into a pattern.'
