started a diet 10 days ago because i was told by my nurse that if i dont lose weight and get my sugar level down, im going to have to go onto injections,
so started a lo carb ish type diet, plenty of meat, cheese, milk, cut out bread, biscuits and so on, lost about 4 lb so far,
my last 3 hba1c have been 6.9, 6.5, 8.3, knew the last 1 was going to up a bit from what i had been eating,
sugar levels have been pretty stable so far in around 6ish,
1 problem im having since starting is bad headaches and blurry vision when reading, not all the time but its similar to when my sugar level was high, or is this my body saying "wheres the sugar"
any thoughts?
not due back to the nurse until end of march

Hi Elviscole! (Love the name BTW!)

It does sound like what I experienced when I started Low carbing, the 'Unofficial' name for it is 'Atkins flu' but the good news is that it does wear off and when it does you start to feel better than ever(well I did anyway),also it's worth noting that when you first start low carbing-your body loses water and sodium so my advice would be not to fear salt as a seasoning to your food(unless there's a medical reason like kidney disease etc).
Also, high BG's affect your vision so when you stabilise your BG's it can have a knock-on affect on your eyesight(hence why they tell you to wait until BG's are stable before you get your eyes tested for prescription glasses)

Best wishes

Paul

Blurry vision is normal as your eyeballs get used to the normal glucose levels. Took me a few months but slowly returned to normal.

Ive experienced that as well. Not due to diet but when i went on insulin after diagnosis. I agree that your eyes are getting used to normal sugar levels. i had to stay home for 2 weeks as my vission was so bad!

As I understand it elevated bg causes the lens of the eye to swell, once bg levels return to normal then vision should settle down, this is why the advice is not to buy new glasses in the first few weeks/months of diagnosis.

Headaches are almost gone now and the blurred vision seems to be better, and the weight slowly dropping off8-)

Have you tried Bilberry?
Of ten referred to a sthe British blueberry it's a gift to Diabetes as well as it's reknowned qualities in helping your vision.
In world war 2 they even gave it to pilots to supplement their night vision.
It also is very good for anyone who is suffering varicocele (inflamed vein in the testicles)..

And it makes the most delicious crumble!

I had blurry vision come on a few days after starting low carbing and getting my glucose levels down... this was because the pressure in my eyes had reduced and my eyes no longer matched the prescription I had for my glasses which had been prescribed without knowing that my glucose levels were high... I found I had to go back to the previous weaker strength glasses to get rid of the blurring.

I'm waiting now to get really stable control before going for a fresh prescription...

The juice i use is the asda double strength no added sugar orange juice
So far I've lost 10lb in just under a month and my eyesight back to normal,
Do get the odd craving but seem to be able to resist much better now
