I am so confused, I am type 2 and have IBS. I dont know what to eat and have losted 20 pounds in 2 months. I feel sick daily. I dont eat any sugar at all now. My IBS is acting up really bad lately and the gas is super bad. I think I am going to back to my diet before I knew I had type 2 and put my potatoes back in, it was my main source of potassium in my diet. I cant stand the IBS over losing my blood sugar, plus now my blood sugar is lowering due to this diet but I feel like death, no engry, sad and crying daily, feel weak. I cant stand it anymore and I am so hungry and I have no where to turn for help.

Tell us what your daily meals look like. Maybe there's something there that needs replacing? Have you added any kind of seed (Flax, Chia etc) ? Because I know they aggrivate my IBS something awful. Because you shouldn't be feeling like this, a low carb diet shouldn't be torture. (And I know IBS certainly is that). What's typical for a day? Maybe we can find the culprit together?

And avocado's are a wonderful source of potassium. Mushrooms too. Those won't spike you. Spinach either. And should be okay for your intestines...

Hi @Cant eat, from my reading and not as professional advice or opinion:
are you receiving any form of treatment or been advised to consider any form of diet for your IBS?
And have you had conditions such as coeliac disease, colitis etc ruled out?
There is a type of diet which us said to help and percentage of persons with properly diagnosed IBS. (FODMAPS diet) which you could ask your doctor about.
Also my doctor will often ask me about my weight and weight loss is something he gets concerned about. So I expect your doctor is the same and so better to see him/her sooner (within weeks) rather than later.
2 months can seem like a long time and best to have it looked at.
Until, through your doctor, you have better handle on your IBS it is tricky to know what to do about your diet and diabetes.

@Brunneria has a really good point... Are you on Metformin? Because I lived in the loo while I was on it, and after a week of that the bleeds started, and what have you... I didn't think of it sooner because you only mentioned food and I wasn't quite awake, but if you have IBS, Metformin is potentially hell on your insides...

I totally know where you are. Believe me.
The pain from my stomach cramps and pain from sitting down after one of the bouts of the diarrhea is very very upsetting. My children are so close that they are seeing most of my pain and distress too. That is what I hate the most.
I have resigned myself to 3 meberine sugar coated tablet per day just to keep it under some control. I had to take 2 imodium on the out start of my recent attack too. This wasn't medically prescribed but I had no choice. The 2 tablets stopped my diarrhoea so I could function.
I too lost lbs of weight and was left dehydrated so I made a vicious attempt to rehydrate and force my insulin therapy routine to ensure no lasting problems. I take dapagliflozin which is prone to dka so I made it a priority. I'm feeling far less distraught and in agony.
I'm left with a dull feeling so I'm suspecting a water infection. I'm also left with a severe attack of thrush too.

You don't know how relieved I am that the meberine tablets are keeping the cramping at bay.

What IBS trategy have you got?
Do you think flour or oats keeps yours at bay?
Do you have a food trigger?

Ps. I'm not on metformin. Not used for over 12mths now.

More information about what you are eating and what you can eat with IBS would be helpful as on a low carb diet the usual response is loads of energy, and feeling happy and contented. One of the reasons many people can stick to low carb is down to not feeling hungry - so something is not right somewhere.

I've read that everyone has their own food triggers of IBS bouts. No universal food or type.

I've researched if my up coming op can help with IBS. Yes my kind of op has great success in 'curing' IBS. No other bariatric operation has.
I'm not ever suggesting an op to cure your IBS but good management is the key.
Some people cannot serve/manage 2 ailments 100%. Compromise often has to be made.
Only you can decide what those compromises need to be.
My compromise is more insulin to cater for the sugary medication for a far far less painful digestive system.
I may add I've only recently developed IBS. Some medics suspect my A+E diagnosis but don't say how to stop it though.
I think it's because traditionally IBS sufferers aren't morbidly obese, like me.
Like you they lose weight and can become needing dietician support.
Are you due to see your GP for a review?
