Hi everyone,
I had a telephone appointment booked with a consultant which I waited 2 hours for which I did not recieve until I was on my way to a local supermarket and whilst crossing a very busy main road with multiple traffic lights so the doctor finally rung me, it was not safe for me to take my eyes off the road so I missed 2 calls one after the other, again 2 hours after the appointment time!
A few weeks later, I recieved a discharge letter which confirmed I had been discharged from the diabetic clinic and was signed by a locum consultant endocrinologist. I decided to show this letter to the DSN this morning because I was quite concerned about it. The DSN has confirmed that people with Type 1 diabetes are never fully discharged from their service and that a discharge is against the rules because the service could be needed for SOS, emergencies, such as DKA etc.
The DSN has also advised me that when my consultant finds out about he' going to be furious.
There is a good chance that diabetic clinics in other areas may also do the same and not fully discharge patients with T1D from their service and I have posted this message in the hope that if this happens to anyone else with T1D your clinic should be able to reverse it.
Your life in their hands!
