Do you ever treat yourselves to bad things?

I really try not to. I'm kind of a black or white guy. I don't do shades of grey (especially not 50 shades).

It's easier for me to stick to the rules when I know exactly what they are. The good thing about the ketosis thing is that you really need to be in it all the time - bouncing in and out makes it more difficult.

If I do slip, I tend to beat myself up over small things, like eating an apple, or maybe eating a biscuit on aeroplane that has like 15 carbs. I realise that these are really, really small, in the grand scheme of things, but it stops me from the bigger transgressions like eating a whole packet of Chocolate HobNobs.

To be honest, I think I've broken the hold that carbohydrates had over me (and almost everyone else). I don't really desire them that much.

I think I'm a bit like you now. Since my diagnosis it's been an all or nothing approach in the main and I now look at a biscuit and think "15g of carb if I eat just ONE! Not worth it for just ONE biscuit, I'd want 10 and I can't have 10, so no point having any at all'.

I'm in the early stages of LCHF so I have fallen off the wagon a couple of times and it's been crisps and chocolate which I keep in specially for 'falling off the wagon' days. Doesn't happen often but I've definitely weaned myself off most simple carbs and to be honest it's not me who buys the crisps and chocs, it's a friend who brings them when he visits. So although I've stopped buying them myself, psychologically I'm not ready to give them up yet so I accept them from my friend.

1/2 a custard tart - and then a furious dog walk

Never - except, when I was on holiday I did, but it was a special holiday and I don't regret it at all. Apart from that I am like Fergie, I am very black and white (even down to the footy team I support - come on the toon!! ). Sorry, yes, I really am very strict with myself, and only ever have what I know is safe for me, it wouldn't occur to me to eat something that either I wasn't sure about or that I knew would cause me to spike. I eat to live these days rather than living to eat like I used to do.

I make so many low carb goodies, I dont crave anything thats considered to be 'bad' for me.

Me too. I bake cakes, cookies, all kinds of treats all low carb so safe. I like to know what I am eating, and I certainly don't want any of the shop bought stuff filled to the gunnels in preservatives and other ****!

Well that's just about being polite, isn't it? The real danger are the friends who read up on diabetes, like the one who told me about Nairn biscuits. These are relatively low-sugar, low-GI, include ginger and chocolate chip among the flavours, you can convince yourself that they are OK, and they are FATAL. One is fine, but they have them in little packets of 5, and if you don't eat them all they go soft, so how can you stop at one...???? I haven't touched a normal biscuit since diagnosis, but Nairn biscuits are my nemesis. If anyone offers you one, JUST SAY NO, kids.

Today i went into panic meltdown. First panic attack for months.

ended up eating 10 jaffa cakes  and my bs afterwards went up to 15.7!!!

1 brisk half hour walk later, and 3 big glasses of water - down to 10.7 (still very bad) and I still feel dreadful

Lesson learned: no amount of cake or chocolate helps with stress and it causes more problems to deal with. Next time i will have a glass of red wine instead.

There are 12 Jaffa Cakes in a pack! What happened to the other two?

I gave them to my teenage son :D

why am I not surprised to see you know how many there are in a pack???

still feel a bit woozzy 2 hours later - anything else i can do to get my levels down, or shall I just keep drinking the water?

I thought you would have saved at least one for me Lucy!

Jump up and down on the spot a bit? Walk up and down the stairs?

I really wouldn't worry about it, one Jaffa Cake shaped spike isn't going to do any damage.

On the bright side, a 10 Jaffa Cake spike is only 83% as bad as a 12 Jaffa Cake spike.

Friday was the MacMillan Nurses Coffee Morning.
Friday late afternoon my wife returned with a large, largely uneaten cheesecake her friend had given her (her friend had been helping with the event.)
I couldn't leave my wife to eat all those calories on her own, and managed to enjoy my altruistic sharing of the cheesecake.
I was surprised how 'un'sweet it was, since I usually find such things can seem oversweet, when you haven't eaten them for quite some time.

Back to the yoghurt and berries now,

Geoff

I'm struggling to eat healthy at the moment, but that's due to being on holiday. **** excuse but I guess I've treated myself for the last 3 weeks :silent:

Tomorrow back to work, which means back to the gym, so nothing but slow acting carbs, lean protein and healthy fats :P

Eating junk + taking insulin has led to an increase in body fat, can't have that

Out for a Chinese meal this Friday night so I expect to be eating bad things

Im type 1 and I like to treat myself now and then, cream cakes is my favorite. It's all good,as long as u keep a close eye on ur sugar levels. :-)

Hi All.
I once caved in and had a coffee renoir creanm cake (love the creamy custard in these)
Always loved custardy vanillary puddings since childhood.
Never again - learned a quick lesson from this!
My sugars leapt up fast to 16.6 too high to enjoy or risk again...
Anna.

Lessons learned big time eh Anna  While it's easy to laugh after the event, it's things like this that keep me away from treats that are not low carb. I can't see the point in eating empty calories, and foodstuffs where you don't know the ingredients.

I went to the local Tesco Express yesterday and at the checkout I spotted some little bags of brownies and gingerbread men. I've not bought cakes or biscuits for over a year now and I have to admit that yesterday I did fancy something sweet. I didn't NEED it but I fancied it. So I checked the carbs and they were 7.2 carbs per brownie or gingerbread man. If I'd bought them a year ago when I wasn't low carbing, I'd have probably polished off the whole packet of gingerbreads in one sitting, but since low carbing, even though I might fancy a 'treat' I can't actually eat as much as I did before. So I had two little brownies and a gingerbread man with a cuppa around 7pm and checked my levels about an hour after and they were 6.5 which is quite good for me.

Bit annoyed yesterday... our big boss (the firm's owner) celebrated us winning a big order and laid on £300 worth of pizza in the canteen... along with loads of full fat cola and lemonade... ARGHHH!!!!

So I relented and had just one slice...

Didn't help either that two work colleagues also put doughnuts and cup-cakes on for their birthdays as well...

Pizza, doughnuts and cup-cakes - I could have declined the pizza and cupcakes easily cos I don't like them - but the doughnuts - nooooooooooo waaaaaaaaaaay.

I was naughty yesterday and succumed to 3 Jaffa cakes with a cuppa in the evening.

I woke up at about 8am because my whole body was tingling like mild pins and needles but it was right through my body from head to toe. My lips and tongue were burning and tingling and I couldn't even turn over and get back to sleep because it was so uncomfortable. My BG was 7.0 when I got up.

Anyone know why that tingling happens and was it the Jaffa Cakes that did it?
