Do you have a day off from LCHF?

Does anyone on lchf ever have a day off the diet? Was just wondering if it would have any effects
I do on special occasions/ social situations were eating low carb would just be awkward for the host. Effects? A roller coaster of blood sugars for a day and a few days to recover back into a state of ketosis and regret!

I wouldn' have a day off but once a month I do find myself drawn into the local bakery where I treat myself to the cake with the most cream and least cake. That treat keeps me on track the rest of the month and it does little to my BG, I am good the other 30 days

I think there is a difference between a day off n a meal off....

Correct for me it is one meal off and not a day off. Last Friday it was a Chinese and ice cream and the next day my blood sugar levels were 4.3 in the morning before breakfast. Some members state that there levels remain high for a day or two after indulging themselves.

I think that is true of many, but for me, I always have a lower bg the morning after an indulgance.

So I view it with deep suspicion. I mean, it looks good, but I think it is just because my insulin production was kicked up a gear the day before, and is still hopping up and down - and I really don't see that as a good thing. the poor wee beta cells were having an nice rest, and the carbs got them all over excited, and all these hours later, they are still on high alert, when I am trying to be gentle with them and conserve their capacity for the next 40+ years.

Of course that is just one interpretation. Other people celebrate the lower reading, and try and repeat it...

Six days a week I stick to my eating plan - which is working - and on the seventh a Chinese meal and ice cream. Red wine to help lower the sugar levels, purely medicinal. Blood sugars went from 8.3 when diagnosed last March down to 5.7 this March. Having a weekly treat means it is easier to stick to my plan. Today I get the Chinese meal.

I think I might give that a go - not had a Chinese for over 6 months now! Or fish & chips from the chippy!
i didn't have a day off for the first 4 months, I was very strict at fewer than 50g carbs a day, but I've had the odd treat since then, a cinnamon fruit bun from my local bakery, a prawn mayo sandwich after spending a few hours at the hospital, a couple of chocolate eclairs on my birthday (lowest carb cake I could find!) and they haven't made any difference to my BG, so I think a weekly treat is finally possible for me :)
I've still got a Aunt Bessie Jam Roly Poly in the freezer, that might be my treat this week! :D

That jam roly poly has lastest a long time in your freezer, treat yourself you know you want to :hungry:it would not have lasted so long in mine. My monthly cream cake does't cause me one iota of guilt. Go on I dare you:)

I think I'm going to have too, I need to make some space to stock up on Hi-Lo low carb bread ;)
