I was diagnosed 3 years ago as type 2. To start with my sugar levels were managed OK , and also after having bowel surgery. Now tho ,my levels have been rising and rising. After my metformin had been increased to the maximum dose and another Tablet added , my levels still never drop below 14-15,even after 2 rounds of golf in 1 day they stay the same. I have also lost 3 stone in weight over the last year and yet my doctors don't seem overly concerned. I have a dietician appointment in a few weeks as I have no idea about what to eat and when. I have been waiting months for this appt . I have to eat a high fibre diet due to my bowel condition and when I look online for things to eat it's all recipies and carbs and protien, this contains this and this contains that, as much as I try to understand it all, I just get more and more confused. I just want to know if mince and potatoes are OK, then chicken the next night etc etc. Also, I am hungry ALL the time as little and often doesn't satisfy me, so what is OK to snack on? I am at the end of my tether and if I drop 3 more kilos my BMi index will say I am underweight and the doctors still don't seem concerned. Apologies for this being so long winded but I don't know who else to ask these questions

I would be wanting a c pep and gad test to rule out type 1or 1.5. Go rattle your GP'S cage, that is a lot of weight to lose and exercise to take with poor results.

Ali is correct, sounds like possibly LADA rather than T2. Request a GAD test. You may need insulin. Good luck.

Yup, agree with the other posters that LADA is a strong possibility and you need GAD and c-peptide tests. Sadly some GPs have not heard of LADA or the tests. If you hit a brick wall, ask for a referral to the diabetes clinic. Anyway, insist on going onto insulin if the tablets no longer work. I was on three different tablets and they stopped working. Initially my diabetes GP refused insulin but when my sugars continued to climb she suggested it and I wouldn't go back. Look at the NICE Diabetes Pathway doc on the web. If your HBa1c is noticeably above 7.5% then ask the GP to medicate you to get below 7.5 (NICE guidance). I went rapidly up to 8.3% which convinced my GP and my last HBa1c was 6.3 thru the insulin. A high fibre diet is also a diabetic diet in many ways so beans & pulses are good as well as many veg. Just avoid refined carbs or big carb portion sizes. Do keep an eye on your ketones and if your sugars go above 20/30 with ketones present then go to A&E.
