I have been to see the doctor this morning and told him about my blood sugar rising to 20s after exercise and then eating something or happens the day after strenuous exercise. Most days stays between 4 and 8. He said it’s strange because blood sugar would usually go down after exercise? He doesn’t think I have diabetes but has taken my blood and also checking my kidneys as I have terrible back ache at night. I had a blood test in April so can’t imagine my ac1 level changeing. My question is .. is that right my blood sugar soihould rise after. I get so tired I’m desperate for help. What do u think?

It is what happens to me.
I accept it as normal, my liver supplying glucose in case I need to fight for my life if whatever I was running away from catches me - why would it go down?
However, it does reduce to normal later in the day now that I have things under control.
What sort of things are you eating after exercise?

Sorry think I passed out writing the end of that message. My question was should my blood lower after exercise if u have diabetes?

Some exercise raises blood sugar, some reduces it.

Remember that diabetes causes high blood sugar, diabetes does not cause low blood sugar at all (some of the diabetes medications can and do though, and there are also some conditions that do as well)

Apple Sandwich tea and biscuit

I don’t have diabetes

Rising into the 20's? Even the next day....

Well, something certainly isn't right. Hopefully your doctor is seeking the relevant tests. That is where your answers will be. Hopefully a hba1c was done to compare with the previous result. Good luck.

Having a blood glucose level so high and for so long, but no diagnosis of diabetes - doesn't really add up.
I can only suggest going back to the doctor with your blood glucose readings and pointing out that it is not normal at all.

If you have insufficient insulin for whatever reason then your blood sugar may remain elevated after exercise but naturally it should come down IF you do not eat anything because your muscles require their glycogen (muscle storage form of glucose) to be replenished. If your insulin is adequate this allows the take up of glucose into those cells ready for the next day's exercise.
The IF is a big if though and if you ate carbs after exercise then this means your blood sugar will elevate but should normally return to 4-8 levels after 2 hours.
However it is hard for any of us to make a diagnosis. If it were me I'd keep measuring fasting and post meal (2 hours and 4 hours) blood glucoses to see if there is a pattern or deviation when you do different types of exercise (walking/cycling vs. weights. high intensity) and eat certain foods (bread/biscuits/fruit vs. eggs, cheese, ) for example.

One other thing I'll add is for some people - those with anaemia and from certain ethnic backgrounds, the A1c test can be unreliable. In those circumstances a fructosamine test can be more accurate.

Spoken to the doctor this morning. Bloods came back normal and my a1c was normal but slightly higher than my last one at 37. He is sending me to a endocrinologist to see what’s going on. Thanks for all your advice x

There’s few good things online about exercise and blood sugar levels. One type makes it rise...think was like weight training etc and one makes it drop...like aerobics? I’m sorry can’t remember which isn’t very helpful! They did a webinar on the freestyle libre website about it. Anaerobic and aerobic...one makes levels rise quite a lot, one drop, sometimes many hours later as well.

That’s a great hba1c well done!
