How long had you been a diabetic before you started the Newcastle DIet?

Just finished my first week on this diet - very pleased.
Typical day's food - yoghurt with fruit for breakfast; sardine/cream cheese dip and veg for lunch; grilled chicken breast with white bean mash and green veg for dinner. Also had a couple of omelettes - the pea and spinach was very good, the portobello 'toast' was so yummy!

I did a version of the ND with real food 6-7 months after diagnosis. (I guess it's better to say I did a VLCD initially, and then LCD for the second month at my diabetes nurse's suggestion, due to energy needs). But I believe I had been an actual diabetic (based on when I had last had a blood lipid test done, and great insight into symptoms on looking back!) for about another year, or maybe even two before that. I had had insulin resistance for about 25 years before that (in hindsight also) to varying degrees.

I really agree with your statement. I run the local Fibromyalgia Group with around 80 members, the vast majority of very overweight and suffer with terrible symptoms. However, only a tiny minority are prepared to do anything to help themselves let alone change the way the eat which I am positive will lead them to an early death.

I find it so difficult knowing this and yet no matter how much information I might give them they just aren't really interested and would prefer to swallow vast quantities of very toxic drugs which don't even work well. I am positive that this food thing is a matter of addiction and I am reading a fascinating book from Dr David Perlmutter which states this as a fact.

At least with Moseley there is a chance that some of them might have actually watched the programme and this might spark their interest but in reality I tend to doubt it.

Goodness! This Michael Mosley is really getting around with his book! Got an email from Diabetes NZ today, and what do you know?

"Simon and Schuster, in conjunction with Paper Plus, are bringing Dr Michael Mosely to New Zealand for an exclusive event to promote his latest publication, “The Eight Week Blood Sugar Diet”. Join us as the author of the bestselling “The Fast Diet” reveals a game-changing approach to one of the greatest silent epidemics of our time – raised blood sugar levels.

Bring your friends and family and come prepared to learn some invaluable approaches to a healthier lifestyle. The ticket price includes a copy of the book “The Eight Week Blood Sugar Diet”, which contains a detailed eight week programme including menu plans to follow. Dr Mosley will be available to sign copies immediately following the event, as well as a question and answer session, where he will discuss the key elements of the book and how it can make a significant impact on your short and long-term health.

All proceeds from this function will go to Diabetes New Zealand Auckland to support their work in raising awareness of prediabetes and diabetes and supporting those affected."

I feel torn, as Diabetes NZ support the usual nonsense of 1/4 plate of carbs three times a day, and do not support low-carbing, actively. But here they are - supporting the principles of , via Mosley and his book - fasting, moderate to low carbing (I take it?) etc, etc, for a fee, which goes back to an organisation that does not support those principles. I am seriously confused here!

Part of living in 'interesting times' re nutrition and diabetes treatment? But it's all good as it gets the message out there?

I'm a newbie to the forum. I wondered if those folks following the Michael Moseley 8 week diabetes reversal diet had encountered any problems with lack of fibre etc? I want to try the diet but I'm loathe to cut out all bread and cereals as I derive much of my fibre from bran and wholemeal bread. I don't want to end up with constipation etc.

I'm seriously thinking about it! Just thinking about what would be the best way to do it.... (at public gatherings, especially if there are fans, and I am a 'mixed feelings fan' as you know :) - folks can get mighty upset if you start asking difficult questions! Not that I have um, had this happen before, er....;).) Also, I would rather not have to pay. I have the book tagged from the library and intend to read it. But how much do I want to help Doc Mosley's kids through uni when I have my own to help? Not much! At all! :D

Just finishing the 8 weeks on this plan on Saturday. Weight down 26 pounds, fasting BG from 10.9 to under 6 most days with the occasional 6. Never managed to get it under 7 previously. BP down. Lost 9 inches from waist, and one (nearly two) dress sizes. BMI down from 40.9 to 36.2. Feel great, more energy, thinking more clearly. It works for me, so I'm happy.
