Since joining Dry January my BG has increased. Has anybody had this or can give an explanation??
Many thanks

What was your tipple before you went dry?

If it was red or dry white wine or spirits and not beer, the alcohol will have been keeping your levels lower, depending when and how much you drank.

Red wine lowers my levels slightly, or at least keeps them lower that they might be without it, for as long as the alcohol content is in my system and being processed by my liver. However, it is not a good idea to use it as a medication or to excess because of the other consequences! ;)

if you already drink then drinking a couple of glasses of wine to help keep your numbers low is a gift from god. If you don't drink its probably not a good idea to start.;)

I will keep going and hope things improve otherwise will have to see GP. Been managing to control with diet and exercise up until now

Ouch that's quite a jump.. no extra carbs I guess? ..
I'm a non drinker so might not be much help but maybe I'd try having a glass (just one mind!) in the evening and see if it improves. Sounds like your dawn phenomenon has returned after being held back by the wine? Just a guess...

Ah - your liver has turned its attention to sugar management rather than coping with alcohol, which makes it stop doing everything else to deal with it.
It will be a case of trying out different strategies until your meter shows that you've found the one you need. It might be fewer carbs, spreading the same number of carbs through more hours - just watch the meter and try different things.

I know a drink with dinner keeps me lower. Spirits over wine too. I enjoy my drink ( or two, day dependent) and as bad as this sounds, it keeps me sane. I've given up so much in the name of D I won't give this up. At least not yet.
Stress is the silent killer and my drink (s) help me unwind.
As stated if one doesn't drink, I wouldn't start but this is my 'routine' and it works for me.
