Hi

People who are diabetic seem to be a higher risk of Dupuytren's contracture, has anyone had symptoms which were successfully treated ?

Hi @WJK, I don't have Dupuytren's but my dad (not diabetic) does. He had it quite bad in his dominant hand and it worsened quickly so he had to have an operation to sort it out, after recovery he could straighten his fingers more (most were completely bent down previously) but overall I don't think he would consider it a successful treatment.
Do you have Dupuytren's?

I had it mildly. The doctor said it might clear up on its own and it did: it hasn't troubled me for 7 years now.

I have Dupuytrens contracture. Have had one op and am having 2nd one in October. Had it March 7th and hand is still numb and very tender. Not really happy with it.

Thanks for the responses, I have not been diagnosed but concerned with two lumps on my palm, One has already disappeared after a week and hoping that the other will go as my blood sugar levels decrease.

That's how it worked with me, so here's hoping for you.

I think it’s also called vikings disease. I have it. Can’t put my hand flat in the table. It started maybe 3 yrs ago. Hasn’t got any better / worse in the last 6 months. I’m guessing it’s keeping blood glucose as low as I can without medication that helps ???

I have been type 1 for 50 years and my first symptom of dupytrens started on my middle finger of my left hand 6 months after diagnosis..... i had my first operation in 1990 ( 18 years after diagnosis of type 1 ) and in the following 20 years i had 4 more surgeries on 4 other fingers.......it also appears that frozen shoulder can be connected and also carpal tunnel syndrome --- i had a release surgery 5 weeks ago on my right hand and a cortisone injection on my left....both are doing loads better and no pain since the op.
hope this helps.....

My father and brother were/are both affected by contracture, but I read recently that there is a better injection treatment being introduced to release the tendons.
I do have slight flare-ups of heat and tenderness, but so far no actual fusing.
