Ive recently started taking insulin 10 units once a day, do I need to inform DVLA and car insurance. Thanks.
 
You need to inform the DVLA, usage of insulin (unless temporary I think) requires you to inform the DVLA.
If on insulin you will more than likely end up on a 3-year medical license from DVLA and your insurance company may need to know this

Hi,

Short answer is yes. You will need to obtain a DIAB1 form from DVLA.
 
Insurance wise? I have never felt my ID has impacted on my premium.. & I drive a jap import.

Hi @Garyg 2 In addition I would also like to add the importance of keeping copies of every bit of correspondence, including the forms you fill in. I was very grateful for this advice from 1988 onwards.
 
Yes to both... dvla will issue a medially restricted license lasting 3 years.. so if you don't tell the insurance they could refuse a claim.

When I told mine it did not affect the cost... but at least I know im covered
 
I told my insurance company I had diabetes (no insulin at the time) and they put my premium up around 10%!

Interesting, I'm insured with a company that specialises in jap imports. For 11 years my premium crept up by a few quid. Fully comp. insured for driving abroad.
Then when I got my new vehicle 5 years back (same model, petrol this time. Newer year/shape.)
The price was nearly double (but still competitive after shopping elsewhere at the time.) but for two years it dropped off by a tenner or so when renewal time came round.Then the year before last..
The quote For renewal came in & I'm now paying less than I did on the old diesel van..

Nothing has changed, still live in the same place. Still the same usage. No modifications. Even the listed price is about the same as the last wagon.
I can only assume it's "age" related..

Doubt it... they shouldn't as its discrimination

I know mine didn't change as I got the quote without telling them.... then told them and there was no change

@searley are you doubting what I am saying? I can assure you that when I called to inform my insurance company that I was diabetic (no meds) they out my premium up by £28, around 10%.
 
Hi Flora123, that doesn’t seem fair when you aren’t on any meds. Shop around maybe you can find a better quote for your insurance cover. As for dvla, you don’t have to tell them until you are on insulin. Lots of good info on this website and helpful advice. I hope you can get a fairer quote for yourself, good luck.
 
After diagnosis, I told my broker out of courtesy more than anything and to get her advice. The requirement to inform the DVLA is pretty specific and can be seen on the link I listed earlier on this topic.

As far as my own insurance is concerned - no change at all on my Lexus thing, but I'm relieved I informed the broker who will also look into appropriate travel insurance when the time comes - whenever that'll be!
