"Our studies have shown that stone fruits -- peaches, plums and nectarines -- have bioactive compounds that can potentially fight the syndrome," Cisneros-Zevallos said. "Our work indicates that phenolic compounds present in these fruits have anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties in different cell lines and may also reduce the oxidation of bad cholesterol LDL which is associated to cardiovascular disease."

Hmmm was this sponsored by the fruit marketing board? 8)

The studies on the health benefits of stone fruit are funded by the California Tree Fruit Agreement, The California Plum Board, the California Grape and Tree Fruit League and the Texas Department of Agriculture.

But they wouldn't have been biassed, would they ?

Between these and some of the snippets on 'Diabetes News' I should be neither obese nor diabetic. I either have always done the thing, or never!

Why does no-one ever ask me to partake in these trials/surveys? The last time I offered they said my BGs weren't high enough for their purposes!

Whoever funds these studies doesn't really bother me. If they are making discoveries that could potentially help control diseases or help us then fair play to them.

If your research is funded entirely by "Big Fruit PLC" and you happen to uncover strong evidence that eating too many bananas gives you diabetes, how likely would it be that you'd publish those results...

That's very true, I don't imagine for one minute that research scientists would falsify data just because they are being sponsored by a particular organisation, fruit is both nutritious and delicious and I eat 3 portions every day :)

Clearly you wouldn't. However, "Big Fruit PLC" are very unlikely to come along and fund a study that is looking into whether or not eating too many bananas gives you diabetes, they are always going to be more interested in funding studies into the benefits of eating fruit. That's not skullduggery in my eyes, it's just the way the World works. You need the "fruit police" to come along and fund research into the potentially harmful aspects.
