Hi,
i have posted before about the lack of weight loss,

ok 10lb in 4 weeks is good and i know that...but thats 7lb inb the 1st week, 2 lb the following few weeks, and 1 lb this week,

mu question is..might i be eating too much veg...?!! which in turn gives me wind and as made me constiptated!! but my system will have to geet use to it...its the furture!! :)

i have had trouble with the toilet for the last 3 weeks, i know its because of my diet change and probably had some impact on my weight loss

what i usually do is...at each meal time ...load my plate with green salad...or veg depending what i might be eating,
sometimes with a few new potatoes
i have a little fruit but not too much as this can impact on weight loss too,
at night i might (not always) have a pkt of mini chedders, and 2 squares of lindt dark choc.
i might have 1 slice of bread with my salad
all the above are checked after for BS,

i have 2 weetabix in a morning which my BSs allow,
i started doing 15mins on the trampett ,
i haved a lot to lose!!! i'm a girl with extra's as my hubby calls me

i know slow weight loss id good...but if i carry on like this i will come to a stand still lol
i never knew if veg is high in cals? as far as i am aware they're now!
i will have to alter something ..
any advice please
many thanx xx

Looking at what you are eating, it's wishful thinking to expect that it's the veg that is having an impact on your weight loss. More likely it's the weetabix and the bread and the mini cheddars that are the culprits.

There are lots of vegetables that you should avoid - which ones are you loading up on? It's not just potatoes that are known to hit your BG levels.

Carbs give me wind. No doubt about it. My missus goes nuts if she catches me eating bread! And if she catches me eating a curry AND naan bread then I am in BIG trouble! Too much fruit can also give you wind - you can avoid that by eating lo-GI fruits (Berries).

Wind is a funny one - if you think that wind is bad, and you know what causes the wind, then it's a simple thing to eliminate that food, and elliminate the wind...

As long as your diet isn't spiking your bg levels I dont see any reason to cut out the odd slice of bread or the weetabix provided as I say your meter shows these foods to be OK for you.

The added veg and salad could be the wind culprit, I know a couple of vegetarians and they have told me their diets can cause wind, a lot may depend on your portions of salad and veg. As a rule of thumb a portion should fit on your cupped hand and that seems to work for me. Although I eat more than a cupped handful of salad when I eat it and less than a cupped handful of rice or potatoes but it does seem about right for veggies.

Have you started using a smaller diner plate, sounds silly but a smaller plate looks full with less food on it :D

And as for weight loss 1lb or 2lb a week is fine, don't look at the daily loss set a target of the next half a stone down from your current weight and aim for that, it may take a couple of weeks or it may take a month but it will come and then re set your target to the next half a stone down etc etc

Make sure you are not getting dehydrated, drink a glass of water before every meal and more in between if you are thirsty, especially when the weathers hot.

Drinking a glass of water before a meal can also make you feel fuller quicker :D

Hi Roxy

Don't cut out your veg, that's where you're getting your vitamins and minerals from; also some dietary fibre. The more green and leafy the better.

Too much cabbage will produce wind  On the other hand, it's full of fibre.

You could maybe try a small amount of Allbran for breakfast, sweetened with a sweetener such as Splenda, for a day or two, but do check to see how it affects your bg levels. Allbran is the lowest carb cereal that I know of.

I too get constipated on my really low-carb diet. Sometimes I soak a dessertspoon of flax seeds in a little hot water, and when they've cooled eat them mixed into live yoghurt with maybe some blueberries. Sometime I have about 5 oz rhubarb, stewed with Splenda sweetener, with either yoghurt or cream.

Remember you're not eating the bulk you used to, so you won't necessarily go every day. I only start getting concerned on day 3  If all else fails I try Andrews Liver Salts - known in my family as blasting powder!

I believe that taking a book in with you and settling down for 15 minutes or so can help; these things can't be rushed :D

All the things I've highlighted could be the reason your weight has stalled. try cutting one or all of them out and see what happens. Replace them with something else.

Hi Roxy,
I have been reading through the answers to your post.
You say you are anaemic. Are you being treated for this as it is well known that this can skew your blood sugar results especially the HBA1c. as the results can be lower than expected.
The other thing is that you do not mention your protein intake. This can affect your blood sugars depending how much you are eating.

thank you for your replies,

ViV your reply made me laugh

i took some dulcolax last night and it worked!!!!!! yayyy,

as you say i think its all the diet change thats made me like this, cant do right for doing wrong lol

Catherine
i take iron tablets for the anemia, it was found at the same time as my diabetes, but i have suffered with this on and off all my adult life, due to the dreaded monthlys

i do have protien, eggs, quorn, chicken and other meat, cheese (only small amount of cheese)

strange to think that anemia can effect my ac1!! a bit scarry really,

i have it all checked again end of july,
thanx for sharing that i will have to read up on it

i have decided to give slimming world another go!! i tend to eat there way with all the veg and fruit etc

xx

All Bran has 19g of sugar per 100g and 48g of carbs.
Shredded Wheat has 69g of carbs but only .9 g of sugar.

I find Shredded Wheat raise mt Bgs a lot less than All Bran.

H

Shredded Wheat is quite light (as in weight). I'd imagine that when you eat a bowl of All bran it's a lot heavier (ie - more product) than a bwol of Shredded Wheat.

That WOULD make your BG go higher.

Although, I'd imagine even if your portion sizes/weights were exactly the same, the All Bran would cause a higher spike...

Strange that we seem to agonise so much over wind.
This is something that not all cultures do.
Wind can be a sign that your intestinal flora are working well.
If your diet is causing wind, then try not to worry about it :-)
Use to be a Northern saying:
"Where ere ye be let the wind blow free".

The constipation may well be due to both reduction in bulk and the low carb diet.
I find that when I am eating high protein and low carb I get constipated.
I try and manage this by eating a few evening meals a week which are heavy in beans and pulses.
Although these cause the dreaded wind they also keep me going.
A good dahl will cure almost anything.

As already mentioned, not enough water can bung you up.
Not enough oils and fats in your diet can also bung you up.
I keep meaning to try a small glass of extra virin olive oil a day to see if that improves things; some people swear by it.
Extra exercise such as brisk walking can often free you off as it works the gut muscles as well as all the others.

As othere have said, don't worry about the variable rate of weight loss; most people can quickly lose at least 4 lbs with minimum effort but then the body starts to resist and the weight loss slows down.

Also remember that if you up your exercise you are likely to gain some weight because muscle weighs more than fat.
The weight loss should then resume (I hope - I've just put on 2lbs after spending a few days doing heavy work in the garden and restarting my 4 mile walks along the prom).

So - weight loss is variable but you are heading in the right direction.
Constipation is often a result of a change in diet. Your body should adjust after a while.

Cheers

thanx everyone for your helpful input, i wont tell the hubby that wind is the sing of a healthy gut!!dont want him using that excuse

but on the plus side my dog has a VERY healthy gut

i cant imagine drinking a glass of olibe oil

it is making me gip at the thought,

going to try some figs i think, failing that..the dulcolax will have to do till my body adjusts

Iron tablets can make folk constipated. You will get more iron from your diet if you add a source of vitamin c to your meals and cut out cups of tea half an hour each side of the meal.

Sometimes a herbal medicine like Floradix or a mineral drink like Spatone are kinder on your system.

Going back to my first Atkins time, I seem to remember that I had constipation problems from starting (1st April 2004 - well, why not?) until I got my Irish Wolfhound exercise machine on July 10th. After that, once I'd built up to 3 miles + per day, I had no problems. Walking definitely does help.

I''ve been o the gym today - just 30 mins on the treadmill & a bit of weights - and that has sorted everything out  .
