Hi all,

I have had diabetes for about 3 years now.

I am 72 years old and am overweight c.16 stone.

The main reason why I am posting is that of recent times I have started to sweat excessively.

Basically anyone have any advice on what I can do to help eliminate it or lessen it.

I am not that active and can be sweating just from sitting down

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply Annie

What do you mean by BG? The blood test?

Hi jasbo,

Annie means the blood glucose readings when you test at home with a meter and test strips.

Sorry jasbo for using the jargon, thanks catherine for answering.

For isntance I have just been to a family celebration and eaten a piece of forbidden cheesecake, and I am sweating now.

Thanks for your replies.

The sweating seems regardless of BG and what I eat.

For example, after I wrote that post I tested my BG and it read 4.6 and I had only eaten cheese on toast 2 hours prior to the test. I was sweating a lot yesterday during this period.

The sweating doesn't relate to the heat of the day either. It just comes on me for no reason that I can pinpoint.

Thanks
Jasbo

Annie, you and I should share symptoms...as I sweat when my bg is low...between us, we would be fine.

My hubby know if my blood sugar is low at night, becasue when he touches me, I am wet from sweating.

On the fortunaetly rae ocasions when I am so low, that I need help (at night, as I sleep throuh hypos!) and I am coming back round, my thought process is usually something like

I feel horrible
Whats that sweaty smell??

Oh Ber, I have had a hypo.

I don't know what your blood glucose usually is, and whether 4.6 is low or high for you, but I would if it could be your body starting to react to a low BG? Obviously, for many people, 4.6 isn't low.

Being a lady of a certain age I find myself sweating for no apparant reason, but I guess that doesn't apply to you either

Whilst high Bg levels can be a cause of sweating........there are many other things it could be down to.

For instance when my Blood Pressure was way too high I began to sweat like the proverbial !!

I tested my Bg and all was fine, normal. I then tested my BP and boy was it elevated.......I had forgotten to take my BP meds, after taking them and sitting it out for about an hour all came back down to normal, temperature back to normal too.

I would suggest that you see your GP and get a proper check up to eliminate all the other possible causes before thinking it is all diabetes related........not everything is.

Is this high rate of sweating all over your body, or mainly confined to upper chest, neck, and head ..starting profusely at the head first?

Thank you all for the replies.

In answer to Hobs, yes I do sweat mainly in the upper body area, and it does start at the head first.

The 4.6 reading is extremely low for me and quite rare. I tested it later on that day and it was 8.2.

I don't think the sweating is related food. I sweat a lot at night.

OK Jasbo, I'll tell you what I was told about my profuse sweating that starts off on my head and then sometimes works its way down to mid chest and occasionally even down to my waist area, but no further. My legs and feet have not perspired for many years and need frequent creams.

My problem is an 'autonomic dysfunction' brought about by diabetes ...its a form of neuropathy and its something I am stuck with. I can lessen it effects by keeping a reasonably tight control over my BG levels and certainly has become less of a problem during the night since I have been injecting Victoza each morning.
However, I was told it will never go away completely and I can keep it to a minimum by staying away from stressful situations and avoid physical activity that will raise my core temperature; also keep well away from direct radiant space heaters and hot climates
I was subjected to all kinds of tests, scans and interrogations over a fairly lengthy period, which finally saw me with a new endocrinologist who broke the bad news to me that I was obviously a T2 long before finally getting diagnosed when changing GP and nerve damage done cannot be undone.
I was told I was 'pre-diabetic' for many years and offered absolutely no advice whatsoever, so I have a retired GP to thank for that who no longer lives in the country.

There is a lot of info on the web about autonomic dysfunctions and if you want to get well informed just Google the two words and read up for yourself.

Hi

How is this picked up - does it show in blood tests? I googled it but found the websites gibberish! I sweat loads and am really hot but just in the morning which is weird. I'm always ok by 10.30am which is even more weird!
I hoped it was just women's things or my pill being dodgy but now and wondering if it may be something else as it has been going on for a while.

Thanks
Feebie x
