I just walk whenever I am able to; no plan. Considering there are a few things putting up road blocks for that, mentally and physically, it just happens as it happens. Usually on the weekend, at least
one day with a few kilometers, somewhere between 5 and 10, always with relatively heavy camera gear, and the rest of the week it depends on whom I have an appointment with. The physical therapist is closer than the pedicurist, so less of a walk, but one has a treadmill I jump onto prior to the session, the other doesn't. GP, apothecary/pharmacy, dentist, letterbox, I globally know the distance to each of them and make the most of the time I spend outside, sometimes adding in a little detour if I feel up to it. That is what works for me, but something more structured might work better for you.
It's entirely your decision.
All in all, you do what you feel your body can cope with. In the end, you can't outrun a bad diet, but it does help to be active. Not just for diabetes, but to keep one's mobility intact. Also, maybe take it relatively easy on the bike? If you go for something strenuous, your liver might start dumping glucose to "help". Longer duration with steadiness is usually better for getting bloods down. Just a thought.
Many here are deeply into sports. Others have mobility issues. We're all different, so... Whatever fits.
