Please can someone give me some advise, these things always happen at a weekend.....
My fasting blood sugar has increased over the last 2 days yesterday 6.5 so I increased lantus by 2, then this morning 7.6.
I've never had such a big increase it has been quite steady in its increase.
24.5 weeks pregnant and worried again

Thanks

@Becky 123 When you're pregnant, insulin resistance does increase around about the stage you're at. I had a number of jumps in my insulin needs and a big jump towards the end of the second trimester where you are now.

If you're confident adjusting your insulin, just gradually and cautiously increase it. Don't go by one morning's result. Make a change, then give it a couple of days or so so that you can see a pattern and see better how your adjustment worked and whether you need more insulin.

I also tested my blood sugar during the night every night that I was pregnant. I set an alarm for 2.30am and did a test. Early on this was because I was having a lot of hypos at night, but later on that test was also useful to see what effect my insulin adjustments were having. If I upped my basal (I'm on a pump) then that night test let me see how it was working and reassured me.

Be prepared for more insulin resistance to come! I had to increase my insulin to carb ratios a lot during the third trimester.

Wishing you well :)

remember that you wont see the true full effect of your Lantus increase till about 2 - 3 days after the change........

or, you should wait that amount of time anyway just to be sure...............

a pain i know when you are trying to pin down the BG as tight as possible for the pregnancy.......

Levemir would be better.......:)

Hi Becky,

I had the same problem, I also had restless legs so I was up at 4am, and my sugars were perfect, then by 7am, they were sky high (7-9) its really hard to get them down, so I would have a correction dose and nothing worked. My HBA1c is still good at 5.8, and I am now 34 weeks, but the diabetic team said theres not much you can do about that if you are on MDI rather than a pump. So for the moment, I am still increasing my lantus every few days giving 3 days at the same unit to let it settle. Its a tricky time the 24 weeks mark!! Good luck!
