i had a hba1c of 42 in November last year and have only recently started proper low carb trying to stick to 30 carbs a day as things weren’t really changing with my readings only now since I’ve gone very very low carb. But I’m still confused as the best time to test fasting numbers? Is it the minute I wake before I get out of bed at 7??? Or do I wait abit before testing I keep reading different things

Some do test first thing when rising, but if you know you have dawn phenomenon, then testing then will be a skewed reading. I have always tested before my first meal of the day. And because I don't eat in the morning, it is a fasting test.
If you do eat breakfast to avoid dawn phenomenon, wait until an half hour after rising.
Testing around meals is recommended, pre meal and two hours after first bite. And keep a record of your results with your meal in a food diary, this will give you and your doctor a lot of information and you should see trends of how you are doing in time.

Keep safe.

I am pre, my fasting starts at 3pm and ends around midnight. My blood glucose is always in non diabetic range.

I get up from bed and thoroughly clean my hands with regular soap and warm water. Test right away and I trust my fasting numbers. For two hrs test time after the first bite. Keep good records for all meals.

Good luck

I'd say just be consistent.

If it's feet on the floor in morning , keep doing that

It's after you wash , do that .

Personally I get up use loo , wash hands well, then test while kettles boiling .

All this testing is to give us an insight into how the dietary intake is affecting us & our diabetic BG levels .

Consistency gives the results meaning .

I doubt there is any one way it should be done

As others point out DP can be an issue

But even though the morning / fasting results are the last to go down.

It's still something I'd like to measure .

My results after DX, had my FBG level stepped down 1mmol each month.

(As in Oct started at 10mmol and drifted down to 9 mmol.
Nov saw that stepping down repeated from 9 to 8, and so each month.etc)

So, yeah
Consistency would be my watchword
