Hi @George C. firstly your title might be misleading and it may affect the replies you get, I’m assuming you meant to say Fasting? You can edit your title or if you prefer mods can edit it for you just reply in this thread or tag a moderator:)

Yes I’ve seen this several times in different places, we used to have members that did 72hr fasts, not sure they are still around

Where did you find this? Who produced it? What does HGH mean? Really needs a source.

I'd take issue with a lot of what it says, particularly the set timetable for stuff happening. Things like "insulin no longer produced" and "food consumed has been burned" just to take the first two.

However fasting is something a lot of us do - I do it by default because I only eat when I'm hungry. Most days that means not eating from my evening meal around 7pm until maybe 1-2 pm, sometimes 7pm ish the following day.

Human Growth Hormones??
I wondered if it was that but unsure. This is how I've understood HGH (if it is human growth hormone) to function

This says

HGH impacts metabolism primarily by up-regulating the production of insulin-like growth factor-1 and its subsequent effect on peripheral cells. The intracellular signaling activation that occurs, as stated above, also has a significant impact on the basal metabolic functions of organ tissues. In general, cells enter an anabolic protein state with increased amino acid uptake, protein synthesis, and decreased catabolism of proteins. Fats are processed and consumed by stimulating triglyceride breakdown and oxidation in adipocytes. Additionally, HGH suppresses the ability of insulin to stimulate the uptake of glucose in peripheral tissues and causes an increased rate of gluconeogenesis in the liver, leading to an overall hyperglycemic state.

Interesting fact; ketones & ketosis can happen during hypoglycaemia? (Regardless of when food was last consumed.)
It can also give a false positive on a breathalyser.

This actually happened to me over 3 decades ago. (Long story short that lasted 2 hours..)
I was sat in my car parked up raiding the glovebox for sweets late at night & the police on patrol stopped & thought I was stealing my own car..
By the time they took me down the station to blow in the big box. (After a red light on the handheld.)
They were surprised I had the all clear.

But by then I had long since fixed the hypo.

I read the factoid 2 decades later thinking the handheld breathalyser was “rigged.”

Turned out to be a “comedy of errors…”
Bizarre thing was, (no database back then.) no checks on MOT or insurance..
they never even looked at my restricted 3 year licence to join the dots?

Just took me back to my car & gave a brief lecture on “drink driving.”

When I initially found this out it also took me down a rabbit hole on an American site on how to beat a “DUI rap” by claiming to be on a ketogenic diet???

I've done 48 hours recently a couple of times by accident - I didn't set out to fast, just didn't eat, not hungry. I have done well over 72 hours, again unintentionally, but that was 30 years ago. A lot of people do it regularly, plan for it, and feel good during and after.

Not water, coffee.

I wouldn't describe myself as fasting - in my mind fasting is a conscious decision not to eat when you want to eat.

I eat when I want to eat, it's just that the periods between wanting to eat are around 18-24 hours long. I have around 20-25g carb/day, no other limitation. I've been doing this for over five years now, no reason to change. Keeps my BG normal and my weight steady where I want it. Playing contact sports and exercising 3-4 times most weeks.

I think there's a lot wrong with that graphic, but that doesn't mean that fasting doesn't work very well for some people.

I'm another who only eats when hungry, which on a normal day creates an 18 hour fast, sometimes 24. Sadly I have never been able to stretch beyond that, as I do get hungry at times (some people don't ever). I too choose to have a very low carb. intake, which suits me and my diabetes very well. We are all different, but fasting, or time-restricted eating as shorter fasts are sometimes called, is worth a try as long as no medication is being taken that might cause problems.

It's possible. I tend to get an energy dip about a day in, but start feeling better afterwards again. I fully intended to do it more often, when I tried it 7 years or so ago, but I just never did again... I found Intermittent Fasting more doable, meaning I usually skip breakfast and eat my first meal somewhere between 11 and 1, and my second meal around 6. On the weekends I might have breakfast with my husband though, as when we go out I'm not always sure how active I'll be and whether we'll find a place where I can find a suitable, low-carb lunch, or might have to fast until supper. Different strokes for different folks...

It worked nicely on my blood glucose, have to say.

Maybe I'll give it another go sometime, when I don't have meds around that need to be taken after a meal. Thanks for bringing this up! :)

over selling.... oh so many things are enthusiastically oversold
View attachment 72316ANYONE EVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING.

My first twenty four hour fast was when I was cleaning out a sewer. It was very physical and messy work so I skipped lunch. I’m a skinny so and so but found that by mid afternoon I had forgotten about food

I’ve now incorporated twenty four hour fasting when glucose levels are higher than I’d like by keeping active for the day. - I’ll drink black coffee and water.

It’s not something I dream of nor something I fear.
