Diarrhea started 15 days ago. I shrugged it off, sometimes that happens. It continued, along with horrendous headache (constant), terrible stomach cramps, and shakiness. I thought those symptoms could be attributed to diarrhea dehydration.

Saw a general doctor for the diarrhea 10 days in. Found sugar in my urine.

Since then, the diarrhea has continued. My muscles are very shaky and I can’t stand or walk for over a few minutes because I get lightheaded and dizzy. And the fatigue is ridiculous, like 1st trimester pregnancy fatigue.

Since the urine sugar was found, I’ve gone on a diet very similar to husband’s keto diet.

All I’ve eaten is butter, raw almonds, eggs, hummus, 1 apple a day in 2 sessions, salad, fish, and cheese. I’m so damned paranoid the shakiness is unbearable. Why hasnt my strength returned? I’m waiting to see my regular doctor next week. And I have an appointment with a nutritionist too.

Also wanted to add that I’m female, 5’6” and 131 lbs so not obese according to doctor. Both my mom and grandma have diabetes so clearly it’s genetic but I’ve also lived a lifetime (39 yrs old now) eating candy and cake like a glutton.

Questions:
1) Why am I so shaky and weak?
2) What is the dizziness about?
3) what’s going on with the incessant diarrhea?

Idk people here told me that diabetes isn't similar to everyone, you should go for diagnosis as soon as possible. This is because the keto diet you are taking is good for the ones with Diabetes Type-1, but maybe for you, the type of condition is different and you need a completely different diet and treatment. Until then you can read this Diabetes and I hope you can understand your condition better.

Also, don't worry so much, things will get better, I'm one of the newly diagnosed type-2 and have been a part of this community for about 2 weeks. It's just a phase and you can keep up with it!

The first two could be symptoms of diabetes, but the third sounds like something else to me. Two weeks of diarrhea seems way too long to me. Did they do any blood tests? If there was sugar in your urine I would have expected them to do a finger prick blood sugar at least, and ideally an HbA1C, which would tell you if your blood sugar had been high for the last 3 months... Did they suggest whether any possible diabetes was T1 or T2?

Honestly, your symptoms are concerning to me. T2 diabetes generally comes on slowly so you can afford to wait to see a doctor, but T1 can come on very suddenly and kill if it isn't treated in time. Are you in the UK? If so, dial 111 and describe your symptoms, you may need to go to Casualty...

Do these symptoms occur before or after you eat? And you don't say if you have a meter or not but if you do then it would be ideal to test where your at when you feel this way because as @EllieM suggested type one can come on suddenly and if you have a meter you would notice your blood sugar climbing.

Since your husband's on the keto diet does he have the strips you can pee on to check for ketones? I watched this woman's video about her experience with DKA and how she had crazy ketones in her urine.

Unfortunately I'm a relatively new member to diabetes so this is all I can really offer. I hope you are able to find the solutions to your ailments
