Feeling a bit out of place

Great to here your levels are nice & low.
You stick with us. Your journey can helpful to many.
I think the NHS instead of giving the gobbledegock they do, should signpost newbies to this site or the main site & they can join us from there if they wish, but after reading the main site they sure will join us. Most of the NHS Dr's & Dn's know about the site so why not just send them to it.

Hi, I was told yesterday by my GP "right your blood test shows you are diabetic, do you have access to the Internet?, just go to Diabetes Uk you will get all the information you need from there. Oh and on the way out book in with the Nurse for Diabetes Clinic next week!! Bye ... " so that was my information - Ha ha - from my Doctor..... What. Wonderful introduction to my new diagnosis. Fortunately I had joined this site earlier last year because a blood test had shown I was 'borderline' and felt more info would be available from all of the regular posters here. So at the moment I do not know to what degree my diagnosis is going to change my life.

Well, unfortunately that unhelpful diagnosis experience is fairly typical.
Glad you found us!
And keep coming back and asking anything you like. :D
Have you got yourself a meter yet? :)

If it makes you feel better that's better than I got! My doctor didn't bother to tell me my blood glucose levels were diabetic which resulted in nerve damage in my feet that could have easily been avoided. Anyway, you'll get lots of valuable help here.

Well at least he sent you, which is more than some would. The worst thing for us all & that includes the general population, is SUGAR, well from what I have learned since being diagnosed, sugar seems to be the root of all illnesses as Dr Trudi Deakin has found out.
You must have a good idea of what you need to do, find out what your hbA1c, cholestrol & tryglicerides are & note them down so then you can see how your progressing.

Thanks all!! At the moment all the letters and numbers mean nothing to me, but I'm sure once I've been to the clinic I will be a fount of all knowledge.... NOT..... Rest assured tho I shall be a constant visitor here. Xx

As others have said (although I haven't read all the replies), please stick around. You are an ambassador to the rest of us and it's stories like yours that give hope to others. One thing I would say, is that when I was first diagnosed, I was very lost and not sure what road to take, which threads to read and so on. I found it very daunting and just wish someone had reassured me exactly what I should be doing and sensibly. So, I think that you should have some sort of generic message that new members can use as a resource, like a go to area of the website for new members. If you could share story in an easy to find, direct area of the site that would really help others. I could have done with this in the early days but to be honest I'm always looking for stories like yours to keep me on the right track. The key is, it needs to be easy to find/access, relevant to what people are looking for and in detailed in a way that people will to follow. Reassurance is very important too and day to day advice is particularly important, for example what should you really be eating for breakfast etc. I felt as though there was nothing I could eat and it was hard thinking up ideas. I later found the What have you eaten today? thread highly beneficial in my recovery. And anything on the newcastle diet I try to follow on an ongoing basis (despite my dietician saying it doesn't work).

Of course not everyone's got the time to share their personal journey but I think it would be an inspiration for others!

Good luck with the rest of your journey!

Fair comment, on need to keep low carb, but ND was developed to see if diabetes could be reversed. I know of @Andrew Colvin , @paulins, and myself who have had apparent reversal of diabetes, through ND method, by which I mean non-diabetic BG without medication, and able to eat high carb foods without a spike in BG. So, although this is a small number of members, it can offer hope and inspiration to others.

Let's not turn this thread into another Newcastle Diet versus LCHF quarrel. ND is just as valid, even though fewer people use it. Another reason why Andrew's experience and input is still needed here.

I think the important thing is that you have lost your insulin resistance as a result of the ND you did, reducing your visceral fat and that has meant that you can eat a normal diet again but IMO if you abuse that ability and replace your lost visceral fat you will find yourself back at sqaure one so it is important to still watch what you eat both in terms of carbs and portions. You may be able to eat a large high carb meal now but if you return to the habits that brought you to T2 then there is a very high chance that you will find yourself back there.

But Newcastle Study Diet, low carb/normal fat as I ate or low carb/high fat it really doesnt matter the important thing is that you can reverse your insulin resistance, how you do it is an individuals choice.

I achieved similar results to you through eating a low carb normal fat diet and have had normal range HbA1c tests for the last 5 years now but I still eat a reduced carb diet as I dont want to find myself battling insulin resistance again.
