chavs !!
just started to reduce my carbs, I am feeling a bit woozy and light headed and headachey, could this be down to reducing carbs , I am completely changing my diet but feeling cr*p at the moment :(

Maybe you are reducing them too quickly. Try reducing one meal at a time till you get used to the lower carb level. It could be a 'withdrawal' symptom but if you feel at all worried you should speak to your doctor about it.

I have dizzy light headed issues too. As I am type 2 I am not prescribed needles for a meter ! I have recently started on Byetta prefilled pen and I am feeling fitter with also the added bonus of losing weight. This is a problem I have had for some time and even though my diet is much the same as before I can now stand on scales and be encouraged.

As you are on Byetta and presumably also on other antiDiabetic Meds the guidelines state that you should be prescribed test strips and lancets........the combination of these drugs can induce hypo's and you should have the tools to avoid hypos, especially if you drive. Go back to the GP and argue your case. I am on Byetta and had strips and lancets from day 1........

I must have a good gp because I have lancets and test strips since I was diagnosed with type 2 8 years ago and I am on metformin and sitagliptin only

Are you drinking plenty of water, Lauraann? You need to try for 2 litres a day when you are reducing carbs, particularly if you are going quite low (below 70g, I would say), because you can get a bit dehydrated and headachey.

It's not as difficult as it sounds - I have a 2 litre measuring jug, fill it every morning, and work my way through it during the day - a mouthful every time I pass it. If you're at work, take a 1-litre bottle and make sure you get through it, and drink the rest, am and pm, at home. No need to buy it - fill an empty from the tap!

A couple of coffees or teas can count towards the fluid intake, but you do need water.
