This morning my BMs are 13. Normally running at 15 to 20.
I feel sick and so tired it’s like I’ve been hit by a bus. I’ve noticed a few time s day I go really pale, it’s like I feel the blood drain from my face.
Started Sitagliptin last week in addition to metformin.
Has anyone else had these symptoms?

I’m type1 diabetic, my BG this morning was 19.6. I have same feeling as you have. I had 2 biscuits before sleeping, without checking my BG. So is my mistakes. For you as type2 diabetic best medicine is exercise. Wishing you well.

Thank you. I’ve berntype2 for 5 years and this is the firs time I’m experiencing these symptoms. It’s horrible.

Hi. Those blood sugars are too high. Are you sure you are T2 and not actually Late onset T1? Are you slim or have excess weight? I think you need to discuss options with the GP/nurse. Sitagliptin will not do a lot but helps; I was on it for a few years. Many in your situation would also be having Gliclazide as I was. If you are not overweight I would ask the GP/DN to do the tests for T1. You may also want to check your ketones using Ketostix or similar just in case they are running high which is not good with high BS as well. If you continue to feel unwell, have plenty of water, keep the carbs down and see the GP urgently if your BS goes further up into the 20s.

I am 89kg was 99kg. Need to lose more weight. I wanted to avoid Gilclazide as concerned of hypos and the impact on work.
My GP doesn’t seem-concerned but I am.

Hi again. As you have some excess weight it is less likely you are T1 with the danger of having high BS and possibly ketones (due to fat burning). I would ensure you have a low carb diet. Yes, Gliclazide can cause hypos so the dose needs to kept as low as possible consistent with doing the job. The key for the GP is what your HBa1C measure is. Once you are over 7% in old money, the GP ought to be taking further action.

Have you had your iron checked via blood test?

Typically type1s. An overweight type2 is very rarely in DKA territory? But not totally unheard of.
Like any diabetic, if worried call your gp or 111.
DKA is caused by no or very little insulin.

That was a message for Surendra Sharma, who is type1 and reacted to your post that she has been feeling unwell and having high blood sugar. Ketoacidosis is something which happens mainly to type1's, it usually doesn't apply to type2's. My apologies for the scare!

Phew !, but really I should have checked. X

Have you addressed the level of carbs in your diet? Do you think you may have an infection of somesort? Those blood glucose levels are too high. Are you thirsty/peeing more?

Have addressed my diet. Think I might have a virus if some sort. Not peeing more, that I noted. Not thirsty, dry mouth is better.

How have you addressed your diet if you don't mind me asking? A lot of newcomers here think that they eat "healthily" but healthy for a Type 2 may be quite different from healthily for a non diabetic.

Low carb 100g, low GI.im week one so have to craft the low carb. Still eat fruit. How does that sound? Have the low card diet sheets from this forums.

Hmm are you managing to still eat fruit and keep to 100g of carbs per day or is the fruit "extra".
For me at your early stage that would have been too many carbs and it looks like for you it may be too.
But it is still early days so keep on monitoring and testing and you'll see what you should and shouldn't be eating.
