Last week I was feeling unwell and tested my blood sugars which were 28mmol I don't normally test. I was started on glicazide along with the metformin that I was already taking. I was then put on anti biotics for a urine infection my blood sugars remain high. I feel constantly sick and tired and off my food . They are increasing my glicazide. Feeling rubbish. Is this normal

Usually with either bacterial or viral infection, you will experience highs in your bgl's. You should be testing on a regular basis and keeping a record. If you don't eat you will deplete the body and make matters worse.
 
Hi. Infections usually do raise blood sugar. Can you let us know your BMI and age? It's always worth considering Late onset T1 rather than T2 if you are slim, fairly young and have very high blood sugar. The Gliclazide should help bring better control. You may want to get some Ketone sticks to check that your ketones aren't raised. If you continue to feel unwell you may want to go to A&E or call 111.
 
With your blood sugars that high you are bound to feel rough, I remember how I felt at circa 20 mmol.

If you are not already doing so drink plenty of water and try not to take in any more carbs. The glicazide will help force down the high also. Try to sleep well. Once your numbers come down you will feel a whole lot better. If you need more help on diet, just place a question and lots of help will be given.
 
If your BG is still that high and you are still feeling ill I would recommend that you seek immediate medical attention by either going to A&E or ringing 111 for advice.

Drinking lots of water and going for a walk can help bring it down a bit at that level you really do need medical help.
 
Hi, my son has been having high readings the past 3 days, with peaks as high as 17 or 18 some two hours after meals. Fortunately he is on the libre, so we can see the trends, and his sugars do drop in the preferred ranges after a few hours.
Do you reckon a bacterial infection can cause higher BS in T1D children in remission? He has been coughing the past few days, so I am not sure if this is the end of the honeymoon or just an infection.
