Well my forever feeling exhausted caught up with me today. Fell asleep in the loo! Am so tired, it’s making me feel so teary.

Does anyone else get like this?

My numbers are still very much averaging about 15, the highest being 24 and lowest about 12.5 Thankfully nurse appointment is this coming Wednesday.

No wonder you feel teary and bone-tired if you're between 12.5 and 24! Could you take a day off tomorrow to catch up on some sleep?
Have you cut carbs already? At least for the moment? If not, doing so might make you feel less rubbish.
Hope you'll feel better soon!

Aww I really hope you can get your numbers a bit lower, hopefully you will then find you have a bit more energy, especially if you can reduce your carb intake, you might find that your energy levels increase a little bit. Mine did, quite quickly too, I am a lot less tired and sluggish feeling and sleep better than ever since going low carb, I hope the same will apply for you. You must also be emotionally tired as you have a lot to cope with, you are still no doubt trying to come to terms with your diagnosis and look after your poorly son. Either of these things on there own would be draining.
Good luck for Wednesday I hope everything goes well and you get some support and constructive help and advice. X

I agree wityh everyone elses comments and you are not on your own with this as
we all support you getting to those lower readings.
I also used to keep falling asleep and my readings were never as high as yours but I still couldn't keep awake!
I cut out potatoes, all bread, even milk, .. in fact most carbs apart from what is in vegetables and my readings very quickly came down to 5's and 6's and my energy levels rose dramatically in no time! So give it your best shot :) You won't regret it

Thank you everyone, I have started cutting carbs and made a fab lunch today, I’m just finding I can’t eat much, and again tonight couldn’t face dinner, two bites and that was it. I just feel sick a lot of the time, I’ve got used to feeling like that for ages now it seems the norm..

@NikkieDuranie
Not long to go now. Good luck and I hope it works out. I don't live in the UK so I don't know what the nurse is expected to do or how the interaction with the doctor works. From other posts it seems that you have quite a few significant problems and now this one added to the mix. It must be very frustrating. Hopefully, the medical system will not allow you to fall through the cracks. If you feel you are getting no joy, insist on batting it back to the doctor. Don't be fobbed off.

Let us know what nurse says.

Double figures isn't ideal so see what nurse suggests then come back here if not confident your numbers can be improved on.
My numbers were worse on diagnosis but metformin and exercise made all the difference. Can you exercise or do long walks? I could then so it wasn't a problem.

A 10 minute walk just after a meal can lower BG more then a 30 minute walk at other times. Just standing up going to look out of the window ever hour has also been proven to lower BG.

NikkieDuranie - Forgive me if this has been touched on before and I'm asking again, but have things like your thyroid function, Vitamin D and full blood counts been done recently?

As others have said, those high numbers are likely playing havoc with how you feel, but it's good to be able to discount other things too.

Good luck tomorrow, but keep coming back. There are so many here with so much experience in all the sorts of things you might encounter it can be a very valuaable source of experiences and advice.

One of the tricky and frustrating things is that at those levels your body is starving to some extent.
Yet eating more foods is not likely to do more than make things worse.
Seeing your health team and geting those sugars down sounds like a plan - just as you are going to do !
Best Wishes !!

Hi Nikkie, I see you were only diagnosed 2 weeks ago and they are still deliberating over what type you are. Please don't despair, I was exactly like you a year ago, very high glucose level. My Dr did a ketone check at the same time I was at the surgery and it showed high ketones so off to hospital for 24 hours and they released me on insulin. They told me that they would see how it went over the next few months and that dependent on the result of various tests, they might then take me off the insulin. The insulin brought my levels down immediately so I did not have to suffer continued high levels and it made a huge difference to my tiredness. I wonder why they have left you as you are? Please make sure they explain things thoroughly to you at your appointment, in my opinion there is NO need to put you through this and with such high readings even after metformin they may do something different. If they suggest insulin do not be put off, they can take you off it at any time whilst they are busy doing their tests (which incidentally can take several months for them to decide what type you are if they ever do). It really seems a bit hit or miss at first, they clearly haven't shoehorned you into a type 2 diagnosis as they seem to do based on the look of a person so that's good, they seem to have an open mind.
