Got my first eye screening today . Apprehensive is an understatement.

It's a doddle! Remember that a pair of sunglasses and a freind will be of benefit. Good luck.

The process is straightforward. Local optician uploads photos to the NHS. Drops sting a bit. Letter arrives giving results. A bit different if you have it done at the local hospital. Hope you get on okay.

You only need the drops if your pupils are a tad small... been 5 times myself and not a drop yet.

Thanks guys feel reassured . Forgot the sunnies . But London is overcast anyway no sun today .

If they put the drops in you'll need sunnies even if it is overcast :). I've resorted to buying a pair at a nearby chemist before now. Of course, you can just wait a couple of hours. As for the test itself, good luck, but I'm sure you won't need it.:)

Good luck. It really is very simple. Just a basic eye test with a couple of extras.
Some people seem to get drops as standard, and other places only use the drops if they deem it necessary.

Where I go, they have all the equipment in a small alcove like room, with the lights off. So you walk in and sit with your back to the open doorway, facing the dark room. Then they do about 3 other tests and by the time they get to photographing the back of the eye, your pupils have expanded enough to not need drops. Works like a charm. Then they take you into a not-very-bright area for a minute or two while your eyes readjust to the light.

Don't forget to pop back and tell us how it goes! :D
