I know this is a page for newly diagnosed people but my first post in here was as a newly diagnosed, terrified person and I was so appreciative of the support and woukd welsome and more feedback now.

My first hba1c was a ridiculous 110 and today, 3 months on, i got resukts of 52. The receptionist wants me to see the nurse as my levels are still "a bit high ". Shouldnt i be pleased with such a drop in 3 months?

Your levels are still a bit high? Seriously? I mean, yeah, they're still diabetic levels, but you more that halved your previously very high HbA1c! That's an excellent result! (This reminds me of Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood: You do beautifully, and then he'll find some way to rain on the parade.).

Throw yourself a party with a lot of bacon or something. You did really well! Yay, you!!!!!

52 is a little high as it is in the diabetic range. If meds are suggested and your not currently taking any, I would ask to hold off for another 3 months.

Huge congratulations on getting your numbers down so fast. You should throw a low carb party!

You’ve done really really well. As already said, I would ask to continue what you’re already doing and review again in three months.

Pleasesd? You should be jumping for joy, wearing the silliest of grins and dancing naked around the kitchen! Well.... p'raps not naked :). What a stunning effort, very well done.

Congrats, @DianeMali. Wow, you more than halved your HbA1c in three months. Wonderful achievement -- I echo what has been said before, you should really be proud of this accomplishment.

Just continue what have you been doing and I'm sure your next HbA1c will be even better.

Still a bit high? Do they even know what HbA1c is? Considering it’s an average over the last 60-90 days, your first post-diagnosis number is heavily skewed by its starting point. The next test is the more important one. Typical diabetes treatment...make the patient feel like an idiot. No doubt they’ll tell you in the next breath not to monitor your own glucose.

Winds me right up!

Brilliant results well done to you.. the "receptionist" eh?
Glad "Our NHS" is carrying on with its usual appalling service..maybe go in and see the nurse anyway as they will probably be astounded that you have managed to lower your HbA1c by any amount let alone over half.. I'm guessing that in 3 months you'll be in non diabetic levels if you carry on the way you are going.
Have a huge pat on the back and please carry on .... don't be disheartened by the fool on the phone.

The receptionist wants me to see the nurse
I sometimes wonder if there is a special type of exam for receptionists at doctors and dentist surgeries.
In my experience, they seem to be a certain breed of people who expect everything to run according to their schedule and follow their rules which have been designed by someone with knowledge of one or two conditions (if we are lucky) and expect all of us to be exactly the same.

<Sorry - had to get that off my chest.>

More importantly, congratulations on your fantastic improvement.

The nurse will ask you what you have done, think of it as a way to educate the nurse......

The nurse may also wish to do some other health tests etc. Remember they don't know if you have just been eating nothing for 3 months, or doing the sensible option of "low carb".

Well done, that’s a great result you’re well on the way to getting your BG under control, if you’ve continued the same diet and lifestyle regime you’re probably down in the 40s already. Keep it up, that’s a really encouraging result!

Didn't you know that medical receptionists have to have a blood test to rule in Shiny Buttons Syndrome?
Yes, it is a chronic, progressive disease, apparently.

You should be over the moon with that result, You had a very high starting point and have halved it in 3 months. Have a party. :)
Your nurse will congratulate you - and no doubt say it was the Metformin that did it. I hope you feel brave enough to put her right if she does. I bet she doesn't see many folk halve an HbA1c in such a short time. Well done.

A brilliant result, keep on doing whatever you are doing because it is working for you. Who knows where you will be in three months time.

Definitely, you should be pleased with it! That's excellent.

Your test is fantastic. You should be thrilled and motivated by it.
Obviously, that receptionist was dropped on her head as a child. Ignore the ignorant. You have done great!!!
Congrats!

It may be less that they want you to see the nurse over the level but more to just check you are ok ect. You have done amazingly well. Halving a result in 3 months is no mean feat. Emotional health is vital to diabetes to. If you feel confident in everything you are doing then sure ask to postpone the visit but it is standard to check in every quarter just to ask, at least where I am from. Do what feels best for you .
